2007-01-05 07:42:00 | For that price with a 12" screen I'd keep looking If I was you. All the other specs on it are not too bad and it has go the DVD writer. Depends if your happy with a smaller screen. Are you able to go in and have a look at it in the weekend? What course are you doing at Uni?

2007-01-05 08:08:00 | In terms of a windows based notebook, this one looks nice h10010.www1.hp.com (its $400 off atm), the one thing is its got a smaller screen, but that aside it has a nice processor and 1gig of ram. What do you ppl think? Is this meant to be a desktop replacement, 12inch is to small unless you are a porn star, only has a coreduo and I wouldn't touch a compaq/hp

2007-01-05 08:21:00 | Are you able to go in and have a look at it in the weekend? Yea this weekend it looks like we are heading up to Auckland, so im going to check out the Apple store up there as well as various computer shops. What course are you doing at Uni? At this stage(not likely to change), Conjoint, Commerce and Computer Systems (or software) Engineering - from Auckland. The thing about that Compaq that attracted me were the specs, but yea after consideration it is a bit to small. If i am able to get a CDRW( with a larger screen), i think i could settle - i think that puts the mac back in the picture - just looking through those links now Winmacguy + various reviews - its looking good at this stage, but ill keep you posted.

Depending on how your going to store stuff or transfer it sometimes I find it easier to transfer files to a memory stick/portable hard drive or MP3 player than to burn to CD although it is still beneficial to have a CDRW on your machine. For the best value instore PC advice I would suggest Dick Smith where they don't try and "sell" you a PC but they will give you the info that you need. There is a Dick Smith super store in Manukau City and there is also a very good Harvey Norman super store just around the corner with an in store Apple centre with Apple guys so that you can kill a whole flock of birds with one visit. Just in case you didn't already know. Good luck with your hunting. :) |

2007-01-05 11:33:00 | Just been looing around again. www.c1com.co.nz www.c1com.co.nz At this stage, these are the two "PC" based notebooks im looking at, they both have 14" screens, DVDRW and non integreated graphics - battery life is CRAP though with ppl saying around 3hours of normal usage. Anyone had any experience with these?, or are there better ones in the same price range? Ill check out the macs tomorrow and get back to you all on how that went.. Thanks for all the help:)

2007-01-05 12:13:00 | Don't let yourself get talked out of sticking with what you know best - Windows. Whatever Windows machine you get it'll probably be better performing/featured than Mac for the same price. There's a deal at DSE at the moment.... here (www.dse.co.nz).
