512756 2007-01-05 02:06:00 it is only XP that gets affected by crap from web browsing.Equaly fortunately it's one of XP's very few flaws. Mac systems don't have to get infected to be bad - they're already that way by design. Greg (193)

512758 2007-01-05 02:13:00 FYI. Just in case you have the DVD (and a DVD drive of course) from the December 06/January 07 NZ PC World magazine.
Both AVG Free Edition v7.5.428 and Avast 4 Home are on there, along with recent versions of a lot of handy software...

512759 2007-01-05 02:46:00 Viruses do not normally bother me as a Linux user - however have you seen:

Note that this software is truely free - as it is under the GNU Licence. Note also that AVG is free for non-commercial users to use one copy only. I believe that if a commercial product is given away for free then people should observe the conditions :>)

since when are the other versions of windoze immune ? Unfortunately they are, sorry my bad wording. I should have said "Fortunately it is only WINDOWS that gets affected by crap from web browsing"

That would be a bad case of PEBKAC on your behalf Greg and the fact that Windows does a crap job of copying Apple. ;)

Meanwhile back on topic for FREE antivirus for Windows. I have been using AVG for about 2 years and find it seems to pick up most of the nasties, anything else is usually taken care of with Ad Aware or Spybot.

I don't think that MS Windows is any more of a copy of Apple Mac than Apple MAC is a copy of the UNIX Xwindow system - I guess there are only a limited number of ways that you can make the basics of a point and click system work! The two important things are usability and the OS architecture (software design, reliability, security, ...).

OK, Ill do my best to work on it. Thanks for the hint. :)

PS OS X did originate from NeXT OS so that probably has a lot to do with the Unixy look and feel.
