512691 2007-01-06 14:47:00 i took kind of a risk buying it...though i couldn't expect some extra with the price i paid...
now if you can help me again i will be glad.
i managed to format it but now i have another problem that by solving it i will be delighted.
some of my movies(part of them was downloaded and part of them was bought from the net)stop at the middle and they cant be fast forward.after looking the Gspot program i found out that almost all of there codec is Divx,Xvid and MPEG 4.
now i cant find out the codec that my device is using except from knowing that the files i can use are *.avi and *.mpg. cant use *.wmv and such.
from my "investigation" i get to think that the device stop the movies when there is some thing that interrupt it(a wrong pixel or a too low bitrate). windows shows all of the movies and i got all of the appropriate codec on it.
can anyone suggest me a problem that fixes this kind of interrupted movies?
thanks

512694 2007-01-06 23:37:00 Hey there,

I don't think "HDD40" is the model, I'd say it's a discription (Hard disk drive 40gig) however I could be wrong.

i managed to format it
What did you use to do the format?

What filesystem did you format it too? (ntfs, fat16-32 or what?)

Do the movie's play ok on your internal hdd?

Is there's anything on that page like:
"help & support"
"info/more"
"Drivers/firmware"
"manual/quick start guide"

I have one small request of my own if I may please...
Could you break your post up a bit so it's easier for me to read and address individual points? Thankyou :)

512695 2007-01-07 06:59:00 to do the format i went to western digital website and found a program that do the formating.

i formated it to FAT 32.

the movies(all except one) work fine on the internal HDD.

the only guide on this page is that it is a plag and play."no installtion is needed for XP\2000\ME"(i have xp pro)

512696 2007-01-07 09:58:00 Hmmm....so if they play on your internal hdd ok but not on the external hdd, what's the difference?...could it be the file system?

Without it's own firmware, surely the external would be using the codecs installed in your os. So again, what's different?

What file system is your winxp formated as?

btw: The reason I asked about what you used to format the drive was to satisfy my own curiousity, I simply wanted to know what had worked since the "disk management" program in winxp obviously hadn't.

I'm sorry that I haven't really helped as all your achievements so far is through your own actions/resourcefulness. If anything I may have only managed to spark your own thoughts in the right directions.

512697 2007-01-07 10:47:00 Actually scrub that last past . . . . Your hdd could be hugely different from any I've encountered . :stare:

There could well be firmware on there too . :waughh:

I'm sorry if I've lead you astray .
