512665 2007-01-04 23:37:00 Can someone explain to me what this "interleaving" is and how it works? I rung again and they said I could expect speeds of up to 7mb d/l and u/l. --Wolf-- (128)
512666 2007-01-04 23:43:00 Sounds like it is to do with digital frequency modulation

512667 2007-01-04 23:47:00 So let me get this straight?

Interleaving on = High latency
Interleaving off = Low latency

I don't get it...why would it be on in the first place anyway..what are the other advantages/disadvantages to having it on?

512668 2007-01-04 23:58:00 Also, just reading their website:

Browsers Supported
IE 5.0 and above (PC) Yes
IE 4.5 and above (MAC) Yes (excluding Win95)
Netscape Navigator No
Mozilla No

I use Mozilla Firefox 2.0 for everything. I never use IE or anything so what's it mean if they don't "support" it? It wont work or what?

I think it just means that their help desk isn't 'trained' to help you change Firefox settings. Firefox 2.0 itself works fine.

512670 2007-01-05 09:54:00 I am now debating between Orcons Max/Max 15gb plan for $59 a month and Xnets Max/Max 10gb plan for $60 a month (Although it will work out cheaper)

Orcons has their interleaving off, can Xnets turn theirs off for me and what disadvantages will it give me having it off?

Interleaving is an error correction technology. Generally if you are close to your exchange (say 2-3km???) then you can have interleave turned off safely. However the further away you are from the exchange the higher chance of errors, these can range from stuttering, through to full disconnection, meaning at that distance it's better to have it on.

My speed results. (I am about 4.5km from my exchange)

On my old Xtra plan (3.5mbps/128kbps) I got 2.3mbps/128kbps - $70
On Xtra go large I got 190kbps/128kbps - $60
On Xnet I get 3.05mbps/610kbps - $53-55 (I only use 3-6gb/month)

Guess which one I like more?
