512913 2007-01-05 08:24:00 Hi polo. Try clearing your computer's temporary internet files and check back the Google website again. Does this apply to all browsers on your computer? Are you in Australia by any chance?

Cheers :)

512916 2007-01-05 09:41:00 Go to Google.co.nz and then add it to your favorites.

512917 2007-01-05 22:10:00 Its because your your homepage is google.com am i correct? If so when you enter google.com it usually redirects you to your countries google page, ie if your from NZ it will redirect you to google.co.nz... but why you are being redirected to .com.au is because of the IP addresses xtra and some other ISP's are using. w000t (11562)
512918 2007-01-05 23:33:00 I thought it was decided by system locale? i guess i was mistaken. It must be IP that sets it, as i just tried changing my locale, and it didnt change where i was redirected to. Dannz (1668)

If you go and use a proxy ip from japan it will redirect you to google.co.jp

512920 2007-01-06 04:10:00 Whenever I type in www.google.com into Firefox, it always goes to www.google.co.nz even though I dont know why or what I did to make it so. beeswax34 (63)
512921 2007-01-06 04:17:00 Google uses your IP to determine what country you are from and therefore what local Google site to use. I'm with Ihug and occasionally I get stuck with the Australian Google website by default because some of the IP's that Ihug hand out are from an Australian IP range. I guess Xtra are doing that as well now.

It is more of a nuisance when a website auto-directs you to the Australian version of that website without you realising this. I had this happen once with frogprints and I accidentally set up an account on the Australian website instead of the New Zealand one even though I had requested frogprints.co.nz.
