512785 2007-01-05 02:08:00 Intermittenly, this XP Pro machine pops up an error message just after successfully started Windows, saying the the Registry is damaged and it is using the backup copy of registry to recover the damages. It then says that the recovery is successfull.

What is happening? Any idea? Reinstalled OS but the problem doesn't go away.

Suggestions, please

Cheers

512786 2007-01-05 02:40:00 Sorry I can't suggest anything atm, however I'm interested in knowing more about this problem...So I have some questions if you wouldn't mind please.

1. Is this problem present straight after installation of the OS (before you've installed anything else...progs, drivers etc?

2. Does this problem occure on any machine you try to install on? (if you have others to try it on of course)

3. Are there any errors during the install?

Yes. it appears immediately after the OS installation . This usually happens after installing device drivers or some software.

Sorry, never tried this CD on any other machines.

512788 2007-01-05 03:03:00 I would start by testing the RAM using Memtest.
If RAM is OK then run a scandisk on the HDD.

512789 2007-01-05 03:06:00 Hmm...I guess you can tell from my questions that I was thinking the problem may be the install disk.

Trying on another different machine may help establish that. (however I realise that that may not be an option for you)

One more question if I may please...

Have you had that disk a while and installed from it before without such problems?

Thanks for indulging my curiousity thus far.

If I remember correctly, I used this CD to reinstall the OS about 2 years ago without any problem. As such, I don't think it is the CD problem.

512791 2007-01-05 03:19:00 Got hold of another XP CD to try on this machine. It is running now. Will report back as soon as it has finished. bk T (215)
512792 2007-01-05 03:21:00 Take a snaphot of this error and post it.

Or do a search in google/yahoo on the exact error you're getting.

Did u do a clean install or install XP over XP?

512793 2007-01-05 05:27:00 Just finished the installation - exactly the same registry warning. Here is the exact wording:

"One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of an alternate copy. The recovery was successful."

512794 2007-01-05 05:35:00 Made a google search and MS says:

"This Windows 2000 Executive STATUS message is for your information. Choose OK to continue. No other action is needed"

But it is annoying. Is there a way to get rid of it?
