512617 2007-01-04 07:59:00 hiya, not long ago i got myself a geforce 7900GS, since i've had it, when i play video clips/movies etc in any program (winamp, media player) the videos are a lot darker and quite hard to see than when i had my on board graphics. i've disabled the 'splendid' video enhancement to no affect. however when i have two monitors hooked up and it auto fullscreens on the secondary monitor its back to its normal brightness but not on the primary monitor. does anyone have any ideas how to make the videos normal brightness all the time?

cheers

Jimmy

512618 2007-01-04 09:42:00 I had the same problem that when I played any clips in WMP, it just showed static. I then turned off that horrible Asus Splendid utility and that solved the problem. The picture was OK though beeswax34 (63)
512619 2007-01-05 14:11:00 yeah.... so any ideas why its dark? Jimmy D (2061)
512620 2007-01-05 21:47:00 Two things:
Codec - If you install XviD you should have some start menu entries, one of them will allow you to do some 'advanced' configuration of the codec settings, including Gamme.. just up that a bit :)
Player - Try using something like VLC and adjust the output settings in there. Again, you'll hafta tick the 'advanced' button to see all the magic options :)

Its like that on a few PCs Ive used, never mine.. easily fixable, no idea why it happens though.

512621 2007-01-05 21:55:00 Are you useing the latest drivers for your card.
www.nvidia.com Go here and D/L them. They well be newer than what came on the CD that came with your card.

Trevor :)

512622 2007-01-07 07:57:00 i installed xvid as part of a bundle so there arnt any start menu entries i can find, but saying that, all video formats are dark not only divx encoded ones like wmv's. if i up the brightness in the media players it helps but it makes the video look untrue. i'll have a go at the latest drivers and see if that fixes it. cheers Jimmy D (2061)
512623 2007-01-07 15:18:00 Try right click your desktop and click properties/settings/advanced/Geforce 7900gs tab/color correction and press restore defaults and apply then ok.

This is if you have your control panel user interface in classic NVIDIA Control Panel.

512624 2007-01-20 22:12:00 I had this same problem and it was very annoying. At first I thought it was my video card drivers, but after I made sure they were as up-to-date as they could be, then I checked my monitor drivers (which were already up-to-date). So I assumed it was just the videos that were soo dark, and they needed to be encoded to be brightened up, but after trying that they were still dark.

Well, I found the problem, and it was right in front of my eyes the whole time. It's as simple as this...
Goto your nVidia Control Panel(Classic Version), and click on the Color Correction tab. In there under Apply color changes to:, change that to Overlay and with the Brightness and Contrast sliders you can adjust the video color. I recommend playing a video in the background while you adjust these to get the best picture quality. (I use 100% brightness, and 101% contrast).
