512483 2007-01-03 22:56:00 Hi,

Looking for a friendly computer 'genius' to offer some advice .

I currently belong to a website which does not allow me to use a proxy unless it is based in my country of residence (as determined by the details I sent them when I subscribed) . The reason for this: while it is legal to use this site from NZ it is not possible to do so from some other countries such as the USA .

My problem: I will be spending time in the US this year so won't - in theory - be able to use the site and it's services . . . unless I can find a reliable proxy in New Zealand ( it has to 'send' a NZ IP) .

I know very little about this side of computing so was looking to open a discussion with someone more knowledgeable than myself . Quite happy to pay for a service or find an alternative solution .

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide .

PS: For the curious - it's a sports betting service, a field in which I make my living .

512484 2007-01-03 23:10:00 Proxies in NZ are pretty rare and wouldn't last all that long anyway. I would try and get hosting in NZ and use a CGI Proxy (There are tons of My Space CGI Proxys in the States so logging in at the sports betting service should work for you).

Make sure the server is located in NZ and give it a try first. Dunno which hosting to suggest but if you do that option then maybe someone here can suggest a cgi hosting company.

512485 2007-01-04 02:12:00 Will you have a desktop computer still based in New Zealand? Can you afford to run it as a server (think power bills)? You could always set up a VPN server on that, set up a free dynamic DNS service (e.g. www.dyndns.com) and connect to that. The only problem is that if the power goes down you'll lose access. With a VPN you could easily route your connection through NZ. Just remember that you're using extra traffic to receive and send data over the server's connection. TGoddard (7263)
