513427 2007-01-07 02:25:00 I have been clicking and dragging and dropping into "SHARED FOLDERS" and other tricks to get WMP on one puter on the LAN to share MP3's with another puter on the same LAN....

Is this even remotely possible?

Both are XP-Pro SP-2's

513428 2007-01-07 02:27:00 Well if it doesn't work, copy the MP3's to the other PC instead Speedy Gonzales (78)

Not what I want to do...this is in preperation for my building my own LAN'd server for vast amounts of DVD that are shrunk if you follow me here....and many MP3's that I want to get onto a server of some sort...

I am still working on this dream/nightmare and want to have about 2 or 3 more puters on this LAN for my files and be able to play them like a jukebox when I want to, and where I want them to play....

Not intending to send these out of my local network..like to the outside world; I don't want an outside server...if that's at all possible.

513430 2007-01-07 03:15:00 Well can't see why it wont work if they're not DRM protected .

Altho I haven't tried it myself .

I know a guy from Oz, who did a similar setup but with Linux .

I think he's made it so the music/MP3's are broadcast all over the house . Most probably with some kind of stereo equipment, something that can stream remotely / wirelessly .

I can't speak for WMP because I dont use it but I know that iTunes streams music over a network with the touch of a button as long as the other users on the network have iTunes installed on their machines. I used to do it a lot at school while studying and we used it a lot at work to access different music selections. I am not sure what the sharing limitations are. It wont do WMV files obviously which might be a bit of a bugger for you.

513432 2007-01-07 04:19:00 I can change the associations if I need to, but (ok..flame me) I like WMP10.

Getting used to things is an indication of old age; comfort is something else again...Metla's fuzzy slippers come to mind...but we ain't gonna go there again.

If you are able to do it with WMP10 then go for it .
