513145 2007-01-06 05:41:00 I've just brought an old Compaq Presario 12XL 405a laptop. It has 64mb installed and is running windows ME. I'm thinking of upgrading the ram. Everest says it only has one stick of ram in the one slot available. When i removed the cover to have a look i see that it has another slot above the installed ram as you can see in this pic....

My question is, is that an available slot that i can use to install an extra stick of ram?
If it is, how do i install it?. I've tried moving those steel tangs sideways & up but the ram doesn't appear to want to lift up on an angle.

Thanks, Brian.

513146 2007-01-06 05:58:00 It has to be the SoDimm RAM. You move the 'twangs' towards the outside and the ram should move upwards a little. When moved completely it should 'pop' out. bob_doe_nz (92)

Yeah, thats how i've done it on a late model latop before but this one does not seem willing. That does look like an available slot aye?.
Here's a closer look...

So that slots just for another stick of rammy ramson

Link 2 (www.memoryx.net)

Looks like that 256 is th ebiggest amount of ram you can pop in there.

513150 2007-01-06 11:24:00 my sister found it hard to find some in NZ that wasn't DDR so went to ebay and found some from the UK. 60$ NZ total for the ram and shipping. I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not lol but hey it's more ram. BoWzA (11709)
