513153 2007-01-06 03:06:00 I just spent the rest of the morning fixing a laptop for a friend - malware, etc.etc. He asked me to connect his fav printer too and although it installed, wouldn't initialise. Eventually I saw that the printer (very old) only had Win3.x and Win95 driver.

Googled for the printer driver for XP - no luck - lots of the same quesries but that's about it, except for a few Linux drivers. Any of you guys do better than me?

513154 2007-01-06 03:28:00 struck this a few times with people upgrading from 9x......throw it out and buy a new one or dual boot win95. tweak'e (69)
513155 2007-01-06 05:06:00 Now tweak'e you must remember you're talking to an older stupid arseh*le - could you please refer me to a page where I can see how to dual boot coz I also told him to throw it out

If one dual boot - would you be able to transfer stuff between the "boots" or print stuff out of XP?

513156 2007-01-06 05:08:00 Its must be too old, as it says on the Canon site (www.canon.co.nz)

No u can't use it on XP, 2000, or NT, Only 3.11, 95 or 98.

As it says here (www.canon.co.nz)

513157 2007-01-06 05:15:00 Yeah Speedy - I saw those Canon pages too. Still trying to see if some geek rewrote a driver coz there is a lot of interest in it on Google.

513158 2007-01-06 05:17:00 Well I wouldn't bother if some geek decides to rewrite the drivers. You don't know whats in them.

Forget it, and chuck it in the bin, and get him to buy a modern one.

513159 2007-01-06 06:00:00 dual boot is not something i would recommend for beginner. actually the other way would be to get an old pc with 9x on it. set them up on a network and print via the network. might be easier than risking dual booting problems with the main pc. tweak'e (69)
513160 2007-01-06 10:55:00 Yup tweak'e - great minds think alike - I've been pulling out my networking stuff before you posted, thought about the same thing.

513161 2007-01-06 11:45:00 If your local newspaper has an under $50 column, put an ad in there saying you want a win95 computer. someone will probably have one that they will give away.

First though, make sure you can buy a network card with win95 drivers.
