512972 2007-01-05 17:34:00 For several years I’ve been using MS ActiveSync 3.5 and an earlier model HP iPAQ with no sync problems at all whereby I was able to set what was to sync and how it was going to sync prior to manually initiating the sync process itself.
I’ve now upgraded my Pocket PC to HP iPAQ rw6828. This has meant that I have had to install MSActiveSync 4.1 and now I have problems which I can accept might have been due to my installation (connection) proceedure.
I was very aware of the fact that it is very important not to to connect the device to the DT until after ActiveSync has been installed and you have been directed by the wizard to do so in order to establish the connection settings.
When I did finally connect it’s possible that I might have indicated that synchronisation be initiated on connection whereas I want to be able to connect and set synchronisation rules before manually starting the sync process. As things stand now I can’t establish rules on the DT unless I am connected by which time the synchronisation has already been done and not necessarily the way I wanted it to happen.
Third party programs e.g. Spb Finance and CodeWallet are not a problem since synchronisation is initiated within the programs themselves. It’s only Contacts, Calendar, Tasks etc that are affected.
I have done a Clean Reset on the iPAQ, reinstalled ActiveSync on DT and re-established the connection. However, I suspect that somewhere within the DT is a file or register that did’nt get deleted when I uninstalled ActiveSync prior to reinstalling it and I am still getting Sync on connection.
Can anybody help me establish a connection whereby I can set the Sync rules prior to manually starting sync? I would be most grateful if they would.
