513578 2007-01-07 08:26:00 Not burning the movies, no worries about size, just has to be under 250GB :P
Gonna be projecting off a laptop.

Movie maker seems to be sweet with importing other formats, only will output to wmv but that's all good.

plod cheers for that adobe link, I think it's a bit big to download on this connex at this stage though.

Are there no open source programs that'll strip the audio off and re-attatch it? I'm wondering if just using audacity would work, and then just adding the mp3 as an extra soundtrack in movie maker would be all gravy?

Cheers heaps for the help thus far all.

513582 2007-01-07 09:33:00 Mpeg is a poor choice for a file you intend to edit, and Movie Maker will output to any format you want it to.

There are plenty of free apps that can demux (split audio and video into seperate streams) and perform basic editing.

Try Virualdub for a starter. You could also use it for your capturing, splitting of audio/video, editing/deleting,and encoding your file.

256mb is hardly a drama...when it comes to encoding that Celeron CPU will choke no matter what., just means it will take longer to finish the job. Hell, People were editing video on PC's before a 256mb stick was even invented, Back in my day we would have killed for that much ram, If we hadn't already been beaten to death while working 73 hours a day mining salt.

513583 2007-01-07 09:50:00 Of course you could always network two PCs together to help render the final edit, assuming you have two PCs to link. winmacguy (3367)

Never said you couldn't do it with 256MB of RAM, just said it would take a while longer which is ok if you don't mind a lot of waiting around, or set it to render when you have dinner and it might be finished when you have finished dinner.

This wont make anything faster in Windows. It may with a version that supports it.

It may in Linux tho.

It won't make Windows "faster" per say, but done prperly it could spread the load across to slow machines. Most definitely in Linux. That is what Weta use on their render wall.
