513272 2007-01-06 19:24:00 After an adventure with a coffee cup, I have a new wireless keyboard and mouse. The keyboard works just fine and so did the mouse for the first week. It is a Microsoft Standard Wireless mouse. My problem is that the pointer becomes unstable and moves of its own accord. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software but this didn't help. When the problem occurs the light in the mouse base flashes on and off. It often settles down after a while - but not always. I have checked that the battery power is good and it says the signal level is high - any ideas? dragonelle 2 (11732)
513273 2007-01-06 19:29:00 Did you tune the mouse? pcuser42 (130)
513274 2007-01-06 21:11:00 My thought would be battery, or maybe something is interferring, like another device. Dannz (1668)

513276 2007-01-06 22:06:00 H'lo Dragonelle,
I've done a search on this site and found many people with this problem and many suggestions on fixing it...
1. Try using a white piece of paper as a mouse pad.
2. Watch out for any infared light sources including sunlight, incandecent or halogen lamps.
3. Do not use a USB hub, plug USB cable directly into your tower.
4. Check that your mouse drivers are current.
5. Select Control Panel, select Mouse, select Pointer options tab, uncheck 'enhance pointer precision'.
6. (from pcuserwinxp)Right click an empty portion of your desktop, select Properties, select Settings, select Advanced, select Troubleshoot, move hardware acceleration down one notch.

Any other suggestions for Dragonelle folks?

513277 2007-01-06 22:30:00 Move the receiver... especially if it was not in line of sight of the mouse.

'Re-connect' the mouse... most have buttons on the bottom of the mouse and receiver to do this.

Blow in the hole under the mouse (the optical sensor hole)... mine sometimes picks up a bit of fluff or something that makes it go haywire.

513278 2007-01-06 23:32:00 Thanks people,
I have disconnected my USB hub and this seems to have cured the problem.
