2007-01-07 20:46:00 | Hi All. This morning I received two emails with attachments and when I tried to open them they were sent in WPS format. As I was unsuccessful in trying to open them, I Googled "WPS" and found I had to download Microsoft Office Word Wiewer 2003. I then saved the attachments to My Documents. Now when I click on "open" in the viewer and try and open the file a small window opens which asks me " Select the encoding that makes your document readable" The next line says "Text encoding" and I have three choices - Windows (default) ; MS-DOS ; or other encoding. So when I click on windows (default) a page opens up and it is all in computer language. When I scroll down it goes from page 1 to page 6172, all in computer language. What do I do now to be able to open these two files. These photos we want to open are for my wife's genealogy. OS - XP. My Microsoft Office version is 2000. Is this out of date for what I am trying to do?? Thanks Smithie

2007-01-07 21:00:00 | .WPS are Microsoft works files, not word. You can download a convertor from MS so you can open works files with word, go here: www.microsoft.com

2007-01-07 21:54:00 | Hi borax. Many thanks for that info. I downloaded what you recommended. It states - "Instructions for use: 1. In Word, click Open on the File menu. 2. In the Files of type box, scroll down to select Works 2000 (*.wps)." So when I opened up Word, Works 2000 (*.wps) is not showing in the files of type box. Any ideas from here. Smithie

2007-01-07 22:01:00 | Does it show Works 6 & 7?? If it does select it. If it shows this, then it should open it and display it properly. I spose it depends on what version of Works was used in the first place.

2007-01-07 22:48:00 | Hi S. G. No, it does not mention the word "Works" at all in the dropdown list. By downloading the Works 2000 converter that borax suggested, it should be showing up in the "Files of type" box. Tried redownloading it, but no difference. Any clues what to do now?? Thanks for your reply. Smithie
