513949 2007-01-09 18:09:00 Thanks chill for the really in depth reply.

There's a lot of smoke about Vista and the new anti-piracy stuff...and ya gotta admit that it's not all known or probably even envisioned on the user level yet.

The wait-n-see attitude is probably the best for now...however...
...there are articles like the one you quoted to have been pretty well debunked...and about this I agree with you totally.

333 scans in XP-Home are not likely, nor do I think the hardware in some of the dinosaur systems some people run will handle it anyway..BUT the XP/64 in a dual-core might be a different question.

In Vista, it might be already there, (No, make that: "Probably there!") waiting for a command from the mother ship.

On to other things:

The advent of home-server systems is on the horizon with intense amounts of duties and activities for home computers in the very near future. Here (ct.zdnet.com).

Another here (ct.zdnet.com)

And here's a dissenting view (ct.zdnet.com).

That's from only one source..and I agree that is limited in scope..but there are many others that I can post...these were just easiest to reach before I have to go back to the hospital for my dad-in-law.

Everything from keeping the home temperature correct, ordering new comestibles for the refrigerator and suggesting meals from the ingredients in it and the cupboards is next...if/when they start micro-chipping foods and their containers. ("Who's that bottle next to the ketchup? He's a stranger here").

There's enough money in the current BlueTooth-Blueray-HD DVD battle...and I sense that Bill is sleeping with the largest ape in the room right now..so it's not totally unforeseeable that he has inculcated these security devices in the shipped versions..if not right now, then in an "Update" or "Hotfix" for your Vista later on. So much money is involved, and after all that's what makes his heart beat.

I just don't trust him very much at all. His biggest grind is the iPOD/Zune/MP3 quagmire. He has $$ invested in his system and securing that you pay and pay for things..especially to him, is the quest.

About the absolutely-gotta-have-updates from M$ to pirated versions:

They know where you live; they have your IP address; they know your ISP.

You said it too:
...ibid: There's just one or two very minor things that you cant do, that you obviously have to circumvent, but if a person were to deliberately pirate windows they would be aware of it.

What's to keep their knee breakers from knocking down your door and placing you under arrest...maybe under the proviso of the "Homeland Security Act" or any other anti-terrorist act they can muster? OK..paranoid thinking there..but things are free falling in socio-legal entropy right now.

Grandmothers and 4-year olds are not exempt..are you/me/we/they/us?

Who IS Big Brother now, anyway?

Some think Google, some thing M$, some think the US...Hmmmm?

This RIAA/MPAA stuff is a very slippery slope. The 600lb ape is in the room.

Again, thanks a lot for not flaming me and my thoughts..this is a great arena for ideas..some not so good...others to just think over...others to believe and defend when they are found to be true. I appreciate your high standards.

513950 2007-01-09 20:21:00 Absolutely! If we can have a great debate about XYZ and still come out at the end of the day respecting each other, then we've both achieved something great :) I like the way you put it... Chilling_Silence (9)
513951 2007-01-10 00:22:00 Uh huh . . . Here's another shot across the bow on the good ship Micro$oft:

LINK ( . apple . com/appletv/" target="_blank">www . apple . com)

. . . like I say . . . this looks like a shoot-em-up for media control . . . or should I say "control-by-the-media" and cop-out to the moguls at MPAA/RIAA?

The natives are lining up in circles and guess who's gonna buy the arrows?

Better yet, "Who's gonna accidentally stab themselves multiple times in the back?

More to come soon . . Watch this space .

513952 2007-01-10 02:27:00 OK . . . . I am surfing between trips to the hospital here . . . . but I just found this neat little excerpt from the CES and Auto Show running at the same time . . . .

CES and Macworld aren't the only big industry shows featuring new technology this week .

There's a distinct geek side to the North American International Auto Show going on in Detroit right now, partly involving hookups like the one between Ford and Microsoft ( . go . com/Technology/wireStory?id=2776330" target="_blank">abcnews . go . com) on in-car media, but most significantly on the alternative power front .

Be Ye scared . . . very scared!

Ford has prostituted itself to Harley Davidson, certain hamburger joints that have golden eyebrows for icons . . . . and a lot of other DINK turn-ons . (DINK= Dual Income, No Kids people, or even "Dentists In Need of Kicks") .

May their Karma be stomped on by the Karma Sasquatch .
