513778 2007-01-08 02:41:00 i planed on getting Windows Vista Premium and read that it requires a 64 bit system. now i nothing about what they mean by bit ( I never really looked into it ). Now i think i have a 32 bit system. So before i say anything else how do i find out what kind i have?

...if i have a 32 bit system how do i upgrade to a 64 bit system?

513779 2007-01-08 02:45:00 Well if u have XP Home or Pro its most probably 32 bit.

And depending on what the mobo is, it may also be 32 bit.

Whats the brand/model of the mobo?

If the mobo is also 32 bit, you'll have to buy a new mobo as well. And maybe new ram.

513784 2007-01-08 08:42:00 Windows Vista Premium :

* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1 .
* 1 GB of system memory .

Windows XP Professional

PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended;

128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended 64 MB minimum supported;

64Mb?? . We know it runs like a crippled pig with 128Mb .
Therefore Vista must need 4Gb to run halfway decent .

513785 2007-01-08 09:18:00 4Gb?! WHAT!!! That's huge lol. I'm not even going to bother with Vista at this stage. Quite happy with my Celeron 2.4 and SD Ram lol. But yes you will need a new CPU and Motherboard and possible faster ram and then maybe a harddrive (depending if you have 40gb) Then you may need a new case because if you don't have all the other components then you'll probably need a psu that can handle PCI- Express (if you get a board with that) etc. Could end up being rather pricey lol. I'd stay with what you have :P. What real benefits does Vista have anyway?? I thought it was just like .. media sorta stuff and making everything like dvd players and camera's etc connect with it easy. BoWzA (11709)

plez flame me if i have any wrong, as am hammered atm

the operating system you are running dosen't determine what your system is capable of

the motherboard, is usually agnostic of 32/64 bit operating systems, if the processor is capable of it

why would new ram have to be purchased???
