| 513755 | 2007-01-08 01:01:00 | Hi Guys, I'm a bit hesitant to ask this question but I will anyway, I don't wish to stir up a hornets nest. Does anyone have an opinion on the difference in performance and reliabillity between Nvidia and Radeon graphic chip sets ? TIA, Phil. |

| 513756 | 2007-01-08 02:42:00 | Nope. Its an unending war. ATI is winning. No, Nvidia is winning. No....and so on. There are some differences between equivalent cards with certain games. Thats why the likes of www.tomshardware.com use various games as some of the benchmarks. So if you are into a particular game its worth checking out, other than that its preference. So far Nvidia has a DX10 card out, ATI has yet to release theirs. Currently I have an ATI - the one before was ATI, all the ones before that were Nvidia. Next time - who knows, depends what I like etc.... |

| 513757 | 2007-01-08 04:36:00 | 100% agree with pctek, it is a Holden Vs Ford debate with fans on both sides with other smarter people just picking the best at the time of wanting to purchase at the best price point ATI "should" have the new R600 GPU's out this month which will force new DX10 models, and drive down prices on both sides (mind due there are rumors circulating there is a delay until March for the R600). |

Radeon X1800XL (albeit only for 15 minutes) 5.) Radeon X850XT PE Obviously thus far ATi has been the best for me, but I believe I'll get the same satisfaction if I had the direct competitor of each cards. |

| 513760 | 2007-01-08 10:32:00 | It is really what is your budget and what is the best performer for that price... but they are so similar except for the times that one manufacturer has a new design out (such as nVidia now with the 8 series) but from what I have been reading the Radeon R600 (the next series' chip) is a powerful thing, more than the 8800GTX :eek: | The_End_Of_Reality (334) | ||

(I dont play fairly recent games *ala Thief, System Shock2* so something that can give me a decent framerate at a moderate resolution was all I really needed. Screw fancy visual effects. At the moment though I have decided Nvidia since I really hate having to install the .Net framework just to install the ATI drivers. More crap I didnt need. |

Choose the individually listed drivers under dialup download. It still downloads at whatever your maximum broadband speed is. I've been doing that for ages......... |
