513740 2007-01-07 23:29:00 I just bought a new computer with Windows XP Home edition installed.
I installed Word 97 from CD and when I open a document I get a message that says "This file already open by 'asdex' do you want to make a copy?"
I don't have it already opened.
Anyone know what is causing this?
Thanks

513741 2007-01-08 01:26:00 Usually fixed by re-registering the program in the Windows Registry

Start - Run

Type winword /r

Then press OK

(Note the space before /r)

513742 2007-01-08 03:58:00 Try doing this:

Go to the START menu, select RUN, and type in:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe" /regserver

then press the ENTER key. (change the location if you have installed it in a different place). This should fix Word. If this works, repeat but replace Winword.exe with Excel.exe.

Hope this helps,

That's the same (in terms of Word) to my post above.
The /r is the same as /regserver

Oops - so it is.... Never quite seen it that way before, hence my post. Hope asdex managed to get this working - it is an annoying problem which took me about a year to find a fix for when it first happened.
