| 514904 | 2007-01-11 07:50:00 | Hey, I was thinking about buying a notebook adapter to use in the car (such as this one www.dse.co.nz) for my compaq notebook, but am a little concerned about the fuel consumption. Does anybody know whether using a notebook in the car costs much to run, on fuel etc. Cheers. |

| 514908 | 2007-01-12 05:44:00 | The adapter is capable of supplying a total of 114 Watts, but your average notebook is more like 70 Watts. Say 85 Watts with losses in the conversion. That is 0.1139 Horse Power, assuming the car engine develops 130 HP (small car) you are looking at an extra drain on the engine of 0.08% Or as another example, its about half as much as the headlights and tail lights on at night. As above not noticeable in reality, the wind direction would have significantly more effect. |
