2007-01-10 19:10:00 | FoxyMX and others, thanks for replies. FoxyMX I will try my daughter's Clear connection for mail, later today. Why look in previous posts for answers if the replies don't come to the front of the queue, or am I missing something again!. Yes the title could be better, hows this one then!. An article in The Press reckons Spam is about to go from 97 per cent in 2006 to 151 per cent in 2007 of all email traffic. The brains seem to be in the wrong area, surely the there must be Blockers' with as much brains as the bad guys, perhaps not when one looks at the state of the nations!. Sweep, too many family history groups to advise if ISP change is made. I like the way GMail comes accross to O E Pop3 screen. Happy New Year to all. Lurking.

2007-01-10 22:15:00 | Errr so whats the question? Was there a question to this post? Spampal did a similar job to Poptray but is pretty crappy now. Poptray does a pretty good job with blacklisting domains etc. I've only received a few spams, in the last few weeks which usually get added to the * list. And yup, u can get Gmail emails thru it, if u forward the Gmail emails to your normal email.

2007-01-10 22:18:00 | The bulk of SPAM actually originates from the the millions of Windows PCs that have been un knowingly infected by Trojans and spyware which are then hijacked and used as botnets to send billions of Spam emails 24 hours a day. reduced the number of infecrted PCs and you reduce the amount of Spam being sent. | winmacguy (3367) | |
2007-01-10 22:50:00 | Speedy, it's back in the archive post: Re: Ok I know I am not the only one but. Socket Error #11001 host not found, was the original question. Downloaded the Plugins, but still get the error. Foxy has asked me to check the laptop connections Clear/Xtra for the same error. winmacguy, like I said, the brain power is running with the Bad Guys. And Bill is too busy trying to outdo Steve with the latest gadgets. Lurks.

I would say the pop server is wrong in Poptray's options. I would say it'll be one of the settings not Poptray, or some firewall (if one's installed) is stopping it, if u didn't allow the firewall to let Poptray have access. Or your ISP email server maybe having probs. |

2007-01-11 01:30:00 | Why look in previous posts for answers if the replies don't come to the front of the queue, or am I missing something again! . People don't read every thread on the forum, just the ones that interest them and if a large thread goes a bit off-topic or a person loses interest in it they might not look at it again and miss such a question as yours . I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't a good idea to search for answers in other threads, just that it might be more helpful to start your own when you have a question that is a little different to the original topic . Although Thomas01's thread was orginally about spam, it wasn't specifically about PopTray . I hope that clarifies things better for you . Yes the title could be better, hows this one then! . Excellent . have downloaded Poptray and installed it . Have this Socket Error #11001 Host not found and the instructions from KY Dave of Poptray have been carried out to the letter, but still #11001 . As a matter of interest the problem occured on the laptop ( daughter off Polly for the school break) she was connected to Clear and I wanted Xtra . Internet Explorer connected ok on the Lap . As Speedy said earlier it is most likely that the setting has not been entered correctly in PopTray . For Xtra you need to have pop3 . xtra . co . nz so check that and get back to us if it still doesn't work .

2007-01-11 01:44:00 | And hopefully, you're not trying to use Xtra's or Clear's login / pw with the others pop address . It wouldn't / doesn't work that way . Unless both accounts are with the same ISP .

2007-01-11 22:54:00 | Thanks for your replies Speedy and Foxy: The accounts window in Outlook Express has two acounts, namely: Xtra and GMail. Pop Tray must be a different kettle of fish and unlike GMail which has done the Pop3 accounts setup from it's website into accounts, Pop Tray must need to tweeked at this end. My main interest in the Internet is Family History and belonging to 5 different overseas groups, I get up to 100 replies daily those are genuine and a further 74 to 110 Spam emails which Xtra takes away to their Spam folder. 2 or 3 of these need to be sent to their inbox for download or read if needs be on their site and deleted. This morning's Xtra site contained 72 genuine and 74 spam, and Xtra has a limit on the numbers it will block at any given time. Regards, Lurks. Ps. as a matter of interest the advanced window server port settings are: Xtra 110 GMail 465 Xtra 25 GMail 995 lurks.

2007-01-11 23:58:00 | Thanks for your replies Speedy and Foxy: The accounts window in Outlook Express has two acounts, namely: Xtra and GMail . Go to the Gmail site and forward Gmail emails to your POP address instead . That way Poptray will still pick Gmail emails up . And Xtra's . Delete Gmail's account in Poptray . And untick include this account under tools/accounts/Gmail entry in OE . And you'll still be able to reply to Gmail emails from within OE or by selecting new from Poptray taskbar icon, and changing the email the email is coming from by selecting the down arrow in the from field . This morning's Xtra site contained 72 genuine and 74 spam, and Xtra has a limit on the numbers it will block at any given time . Thats what options / white black list is for in Poptray . If you want to block the entire domain replace the xxxxx@isp to *@isp . com/whatever . This will fix up Xtra's limit . When u get a spam email right mouse on it and select lists / add to black or white list . Then go into options white / black list and change it to *@ . isp .
