514986 2007-01-12 21:59:00 it's a dell, now i can see why you would sell it but who in their right mind would buy it?:p

$500 tops, it would be better if you sold the components individually, but being a dell you can't really do that:groan:$100 it is. Because Dell components could be Made in India. I don't mind paying for Made In Singapour components, or China. India components? They maybe be using the cheapest component and crappiest quality.

more importantly, they modify the components so if anything dies you have to buy dell hardware, which can be pricey if not impossible

defeats the purpose of a pc really, might as well have a console with windows on it (or linux in the case of the ps3)

514989 2007-01-13 06:50:00 Hmmm...

I have same PC as the one listed above and have no problems... Now over 3 years old.

Is Dell really that bad for "Mr average Joe Bloggs" like me ?

514990 2007-01-13 06:57:00 Your best bets would to be to:

- Try and peddle it to a friend or relative that wants a systm for the basic things (word processing, photos, internet etc etc)
- If you cant find a buyer by anyother means then list it on TradeMe with $1 reserve and remember to get a 'feature combo' for $3.25 which will help your chances of selling it.

514991 2007-01-13 07:01:00 That's a bit harsh... it's seriously gruntier than the machine i'm on now.

I suspect that it is indeed worth more than a dollar.

LOL yes, reserve is $1 but it would obviously sell for more than that. It will give you a rough indication of how much ppl are prepared to pay, and if you arent happy with the prices that it attracts towards the end of the auction you can always withdraw it.

I also mentioned that you could do this if you have exhausted all other options.

NOTE: Selling computers on TradeMe can be a major hassle. There are so many listings for complete computers. I think if you ended up listing it and put on $1 reserve then you'd have a fair chance of reaching the $300 - $500 mark. Just remember to stipulate all the specs in a nice tidy form that is easy to read.

514993 2007-01-13 07:49:00 I'd say that will go for about $450-520 on Trademe, for the box. Your best bet is to sell the LCD monitor separately for about $120. If you have a CRT monitor lying around, throw it in. You can get $500-600 total if you do it right, minus about $28 in success fees. george12 (7)

Dell is fine if you want to buy a system for internet/office work
Dell is fine if you prefer to buy a new system rather than upgrade
Dell is NOT fine for gaming, with the exception of java based crap <shudders>
Building your own is better value, more interesting, but only to be done if you know the basics or know someone who does, ie ask on pf1 for a system for $XXX.xx and possibly get a shop/mate to assemble it for you for a small fee. many shops sell pre-built systems for very good prices (www.c1com.co.nz), and they are usually exactly or near to what you would've built :)

and always remember my sig! i hate it when ppl ask for what they could build for under $800 and members just laugh - you don't need 4gb ram and sli video for browsing!
