After a quick google search, most Ubuntu users seem to be compiling the package manually. Are you sure it is available in a repository?

515367 2007-01-13 09:56:00 Ubuntu has excellent documentation. It is certainly worthwhile having a read over it to give you an idea on how the whole thing fits together and works before you jump into the deep end. You will find lots of useful tips that will save you time and grief trying to work it out yourself. :)
