515197 2007-01-12 06:35:00 Hi, i am hoping somebody may be able to help me, i am trying to help a friend configure "Yahoo Mess" video/webcam, with ZA pro, as i don't use Yahoo personally, i'm hoping i am missing some wee tweak/setting in either ZA or Yahoo even.
Done lots of searching and apparently yahoo vid/webcam uses port 5100-

Quote: In order to use all the Yahoo! Messenger Webcam features, your firewall must permit incoming and outgoing TCP connections on port 5100.

What i have instructed him to do so far in ZApro:

Give Yahoo mess, super and allow rights for all categories.

Added Rule for tcp port 5100 under ZA, Yahoo mess options.

Also got him to try adding/allowing it under: Internet Zone, custom, incoming tcp and outgoing tcp for port 5100.

Apparently its still no go...

Can anybody tell me what i am doing wrong, much appreciated as hes getting pretty frustrated, lol.

TIA

Using XP HE,SP2.

Side note, he is telling me the message he is getting is on Yahoo Mess, that its being blocked by firewall.

515198 2007-01-12 18:52:00 My brother was trying this exact thing last week. He also has ZA.
Quick test: Turn off ZA and see what happens.

My brother found it wasn't the problem, after much messing about he finally got told by Yahoo support that he needed a static IP.

He now just uses MSN with his cam......

Yes was going to have him try this next;)
The only other thing i could find online about this, was even though using ZA and disabling win firewall, apparently it was still starting in services, so disabling win firewall in services fixed it for one person. So i will have to check this out too.

Weird thing re, static ip, is that he insists he used to be able to use it, this would have been a good 6 months back i guess, before a format and clean install.

Thanks for info re static ip pctek :).

515200 2007-01-12 21:23:00 Static as in using broadband?

Thats crap, I use Yahoo, use a webcam/digital cam and I'm on dialup.

Works fine.

Thanks

515202 2007-01-12 23:00:00 I'm just using the normal preferences -> prefs/connection. No proxies.

BUT, I'm not using ZA, I'm using Comodo Firewall.

One reason ZA may not be working, is it used to shut down its proxy service.

Not too sure if it still does it.

And it's the main reason why I removed it, it got annoying, after restarting the service so many times.

Go to control panel / admin tools / services. Look for Zonealarm Proxy service I think it's called, and double click on it / general tab. See if it's stopped. If it has, it has to be restarted.

Also make sure if you're using XP under Windows Firewall in control panel / exceptions tab, Yahoo FT Server and Yahoo Messenger are here and they're ticked. They still have to be ticked, and there, even if Windows Firewall is off.

Thanks Speedy, i actually told him to check that last week, as have been wondering if it could be the win firewall, i think i will double check that he did look at the win firewalls settings correctly again.

515204 2007-01-13 02:48:00 So Speedy, why could my brother still not use it without ZA then?

I'm only repeating what Yahoo told him about the static IP.
He uses the MSN one fine.

Pass, ask Yahoo. Is he or was he using the latest version of Yahoo Messenger?

I don't know why people actually like this program unless u have people on your list, because the channels suck lol and it lags too much.

Actually I think I'll remove it....And find something better.

515206 2007-01-14 00:16:00 Just an update, we went through all the settings again yesterday, even though win firewall was off, yahoo was still in exceptions list anyway, however i did find it was starting in services, so disabled it (worth a try).

I have instructed him as his next step to disable ZA, after turning on windows firewall first.

Also even though he had told me he had allowed Yahoo Messenger, yesterday i got him to go thru the programs listed in ZA, to check he had allowed the right one, then he decides to tell me there are several listing for yahoo in ZA (sounds like some toolbars etc...), so i have told him to weed through them as well (hopefully the important ones are listed as yahoo messenger, i guess --- sometimes its like pulling teeth helping this guy :( .

If by any chance we do solve this, i will post back, it took him a week to get back to me last time with results though so i thought it was resolved then...

Thanks pctek and speedy :). Most likely pctek could be right with the static ip - then again yahoo support? told him "all ports from 5000 to 65535 should be open" gulp!!!!!! -- so you have to wonder about their support.
