515113 2007-01-12 00:51:00 I have a question about placing a 128mb ram stick.I have 256 mb ram on the first slot,32 on the second and 256 again on the third.I wanted to place a 128 mb on the second slot, but when i removed the 32 and placed 128 my computer doesn't start. After loading displays a message that it can't find some system file and didn't start. When i removed the 128 mb ram and placed the 32 again it started without problems.Do anyone know what to do so i can run my pc with the 128? emes34 (11736)

Your new 128MB is stuffed. Take it back and get a replacement.

515117 2007-01-12 02:25:00 Make sure that it is compatible with the system you have.

I assume that you are using antistatic procedures? - use an earth strap or earth yourself on a metal part of the case and hold the RAM modules by the edges away from the contacts.

515118 2007-01-12 02:39:00 There is no information on the 32MB stick. The moment the power goes off, all information in memory is lost.

How much memory is detected by the BIOS POST? (That is only "detection"; it's not a memory test). The 128MB is probably faulty, as pctek says. You might get the system to start by using it in the last position, but that would not be a very good idea. That would only cause it to be used by some other code or essential data ... sooner or later. :D

You could download a memtest86 image file and make a bootable floppy or CD from it ... running that would confirm the strong suspicion about that stick.
