515097 2007-01-14 01:55:00 Hope you're right. It will get harder though, I know, I changed to XP from 98 years after the rest of the world.

Yes Crysis will have DX9 support, which is fine if you want to run it in lesser mode.......

And Memphis, I know all about the nasty stuff in Vista, but what can we do if we want games? Some Linux guru hurry up and incorporate DX into Linux............

Crysis is 90%+ built on DX9 so really it offers additional DX10 support. The main advantage of the DX10 cards like the 8800's and the R600's with Crysis is simply the faster GPU's, not so much the DX10 itself that will add a few extra cool lighting and shadow effects etc (yet to be clearly specified in plain english).

Its a great example of how the near future importance of DX10 has been widely overstated.

It takes usually around 3+ years to make a game like Crysis.

515098 2007-01-14 02:01:00 DX10 is reportedly built to address the issue of how the games are run as much as it is about lighting effects, as it is now you can saturate a game with so many dx8 effects that would bring the latest and greatest DX10 card to its knees.

Which imo is a good thing, The constant need for a new faster video card has done massive damage to PC gaming.

515099 2007-01-14 02:28:00 Now almost everyone has win xp. With every new release of windows, you always get people saying that the newer one doesn't offer much in terms of new features, but us lemmings always end up buying it,

You know why I have XP?? Not cause I could care less about "features" in an O/S, but because the hardware I had bought had NO drivers for Win98.

So I had to.

I'd still be using DOS if I could.

I like an O/S to sit there doing nothing unless fed a command to do something. I don't care what it looks like, just so long as it does what I want it to.

Which is nothing except be an interface between me and the hardware.

As it was I installed XP and then had to spend ages ripping bits back out to get it to a state that I could live with.

Vista will be worse. However I like to play games. DX10 is the next gaming thing, therefore I will be forced to use Vista at some stage. Hopefully later rather than sooner but seems fairly inevitable to me at this stage.

And there are tons of people who go into horrible little chain stores and buy s***boxes which will soon have Vista all over them.

And then all the decent PC shops will be selling PCs with Vista too. Even me no doubt.......anyone tried buying a new copy of Win98 lately? Not....
