| 515747 | 2007-01-14 08:24:00 | This time I dont think its Xtra crap Go Large plan, I think its more there crap DNS servers. As Chill said try changing your DNS servers will help :) As the default ones your Router gets from Xtra are crap! imo here is a set of Good Xtra DNS servers my :2cents: 202.27.158.40 202.27.158.72 I have been using them for at lest a year if not more & they are a LOT better then the default ones you auto get. Hope this helps :) PS: if you want to know of any other ISP DNS servers, let me know :) So where do I put in these DNS server numbers? I've got a Dynalink RTA220 modem. |

| 515749 | 2007-01-14 08:43:00 | wawape**s said: Yeah? Well why don't you bring me up to date? What do you do that's so important that you need lightning fast Internet? Or are you just another petulant games-player hogging bandwidth to feed your time-wasting pursuits? a third of internet bandwidth used in the world is torrents who knows how much youtube and streaming video is. its a 1.6 billion dollar business. internet isnt just email and message boards no more. you dont like it? tough also tough sh**t that technology and internet's main consumers are young people in their teens, twenties, thirties. not you. im not a gamer, but gamers are the people that demand better and faster hardware and help it move along. bandwidth hogging? like there is anything wrong with someone wanting to play games 24/7 or run a torrent 24/7? its not the public's fault telecom's phones lines stink. Your gonna tell people how to use the internet? If thats all time wasting. Please tell me, what majority of people in the world use the internet for. Not what you use it for, your out of the demo. Time wasting? "People should get upset about things that a REALLY important like the woeful state of Black Caps' batting or how the Crusaders are going to cope without their All Blacks. " THAT IS SO CONSTRUCTIVE OMG p.s something wrong with wanting lighting speed internet? in 2007? got a problem with evolution and technology constantly updating? you go back to 36.6k then. normal people like me will ***** and demand the best |

| 515750 | 2007-01-14 09:03:00 | I had a good look thru my modem settings and i found where DNS settings were and the numbers quoted above were already there, no need to change anything. But thanks anyway. | Andrew B (867) | ||
| 515751 | 2007-01-14 09:34:00 | Is anyone else sick, like me, of these boys' temper tantrums because they cannot play their fancy computer games? :annoyed: In the overall scheme of things, is it really important that they get streaming video or whatever else it is that turns them on? Why don't they use their spare time to do something constructive, rather than waste their time away playing games? :stare: I download about 100 Mb of data per day (by ftp) from various sites and upload about 10 Mb to my website. If things are a bit slow, I go play with the cat or make myself a cup of coffee. What's the big deal? People should get upset about things that a REALLY important like the woeful state of Black Caps' batting :groan: or how the Crusaders are going to cope without their All Blacks. :( Here here. |

| 515752 | 2007-01-14 09:42:00 | When you time is money or your close to a deadline/ due date and thing to slow.... Then you wouldn't use ADSL. If you do you would also have backup systems such as a wireless mobile data account, so if the landline connection is down, you can still do your work. ISPs don't have any gaurantee to the level of service they provide, as it is provided on a 'best as we can provide' term, and it is a very low fee relative to what people earn from it. |

This is in your signed contract with the ISP. If I was a grunted ADSL customer I would just pay the $95 Xtra fee and switch. Come on there is life away from "unlimited" internet. Yes I can understand 1GB is not enough and then 15GB for Go Pro is expensive and its not capped. I would just pay the $95 and go to an ISP with 15GB for $50 capped or Slingshot I heard has 25GB  |

Well. Not everyone can do that. because people have their business or office work to do via net. when isps fail to provide the service its pretty frustrating. So please.... |

| 515755 | 2007-01-14 10:21:00 | Howdy I too have had cr*p speeds for the past week or so . At it's worst I was trying downloading a 200 MB file at 3-5 KB/s, gave up after half an hour . Currently trying to download the same file at 22-37 KB/s which I hear is quite common since unleashing ;( I have always used the the 2 DNS given above (202 . 27 . 158 . 40 and 202 . 27 . 158 . 72) and the speeds have never been particularly wonderful . Just my 2c worth Ravage Ps . Never downloaded a torrent in my life ;) |

| 515756 | 2007-01-14 10:26:00 | Its easier to just put it in to your PC rather than your router. Andrew, Im assuming you're with Orcon? TideMan, take it easy, if you like Dial-Up then thats fine with the rest of us, and you shouldnt have any more need for un-constructive comments in this thread. Nobody else needs to bite back at the petty comments... Rugby doesnt really have much to do with the topic either, please take it to a new thread in the Chat Forum. |
