515338 2007-01-13 01:54:00 Please help!

My PC has been freezing A LOT! I did not have this problem earlier, but from time to time my PC just ceases to respond! It happens randomly, but too often.

Let´s say Im typing something on Microsoft Word, listening to some music on Winamp. Then suddenly the song stops, mouse can still move. I try to close Word´s window, but it won´t do anything. I try to click on the taskbar to open another running application and nothing happens (Note that the mouse still moves).

If I keep on clicking on anything else, the machine starts beeping, a long beep that won´t stop. I have to hard-reset my PC.

Do you think my PC is overheating? Or do I have driver´s problems?

My PC specs are as follows:

*BIOSTAR Motherboard M7VIG 400
*Athlon XP 2600+ processor.
*256MB RAM

Yeah, that´s pretty much it (Hey, stop laughing, I only use it for work or Internet, no fancy stuff here).

And please excuse me for my English, I speak spanish. :illogical

Any help?

515341 2007-01-13 05:36:00 Just a note: Mi CPU temp is 59°C right now, and my CPU fan speed is around 4000rpm.... Is this normal for an Athlon XP 2600+?

And about the adware stuff, do you recommend me to use that "Hijackthis" (Or something like that) program?

Thanks!

Try Lavasoft Adaware and/or Spybot

515343 2007-01-15 09:11:00 I been using Win2000 Pro for the last 2 years and never freeze once.
Got hold of XP-Home a couple of months ago, formatted and installed and updated all drivers, and now computer freezes at least once a day.
When I get the time I will go back to good old reliable Win 2000.
