2007-01-12 22:29:00 | Hi My cpu hits 60-75 degree ish during video encoding . according to everest ultimate edition and bios . i have a silverstone tj06 case and the fan used on my processor is the one supplied with my processor . i am thinking of moviing to a new cooler that wont let the cpu go over 40 degrees no matter how much video editing i do . i dont overclock . i also need a external temp sensor or a sensor built into cooler bcoz i feel my mobo doesnt show right temp . but doesnt the processor have the temp sensor built onto the chip the how can it be wrong? what should i do/? may be the thermal paste will do the trick for a while but i have to keep applying but i dont like to remove my cpu fan because the clips are not that easy to put back on .

2007-01-12 22:51:00 | How much RAM have you got ? Video encoding is about the most processor intensive task you can get. Hense the new Core2Duo chips. How many fans have you got in your system? How well ventilated is your case? Have you considerd using a couple of cheepish boxes as a Linux grid to spread the load?

2007-01-12 22:54:00 | First of all, clean out the dust and everything if not done... The only type coolers that will not go over 40C is water cooling and other more advanced cooling setups. Is the system actually stable? if so then the CPU is not overheating and damaging its self Also, Pentiums do run hot and that is not too bad, the work one here (factory IBM) runs up to 75 while running virus, spyware scanners, that is fine... AFAIK you can't get built in ones and TBH the CPU sensor will be the most reliable (but they are not perfect they are often off by a few degrees) but they do measure the temp from the hottest part of the CPU (or close to it) Install more system fans to get rid of the hot air faster. EDIT: winmacguy, not everyone can afford to buy a couple of extra PCs just for that, IMO it is a waste of money... but that depends how much speed is wanted... if gum digger is happy with his encoding speed as it is then there is no need to waste money on extra PCs...

A good place to ask would be over at the overclockers forum, I know that you do not overclock but they know whats what when it comes to cooling http://forums . overclockers . co . nz/ You will have to register if you havnt already got an account but they would have the best advice |

2007-01-13 13:04:00 | A few sites to look at: www.silentpcreview.com www.cpu3d.com www.modthebox.com From google Results 1 - 10 of about 323,000 for cpu hsf reviews. (0.03 seconds) Results 1 - 10 of about 654,000 for what is a good hsf. (0.11 seconds) Good hsf are zalman, thermalright,Scythe, to name a few good hsf manufacturers. :2cents:
