2007-01-16 02:43:00 | I've been rev I have one question: How often should the Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2007 full anti-virus scan be run? Weekly or daily? I give the full anti-virus scan 30 minutes to run each time. I'm a bit reluctant to change to a different Internet security suite as it would need learning new stuff and it may not make a difference. I'll make my decision later this week. You shouldn't need to run it at all, it sits in the background doing it thing including automatic scans. But you can do a manual one when the paranoia strikes. Just because it might mean learning a new program is a completely lame excuse. And yes it will make a difference, it won't be sitting there as a fat boated hog consuming your resources for one. Theres plenty of help here if you have any problems with the new software. Most of them are a lot less hassle than Nortons anyway, I know, I've updated and played around with several.

2007-01-16 03:02:00 | I've been reviewing the posts in this thread and thinking about this since last night . I have one question: How often should the Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2007 full anti-virus scan be run? Weekly or daily? I give the full anti-virus scan 30 minutes to run each time . Depends how paranoid u are . And up to you when / or how often u want to scan . I'm a bit reluctant to change to a different Internet security suite as it would need learning new stuff and it may not make a difference . I'll make my decision later this week . It'll definitely make a diff (for loading and speed) if u change to something else . Even if they're separate installs (like AVG free, Avast Home, and something like Comodo), which are all free . Zonealarm IMO is as bad as any version of NIS . In the latest Netguide none of the IS programs were that good . Altho NIS did get 4 stars . Bitdefender got 3 (easy to use, good set of features, excellent virus scan, low cost, BUT firewall management can be confusing, weak antispam) Kaspersky - 3 1/2 stars Excellent malware scanner, phishing protection, highly configurable, BUT Interface isnt great, poor docs, little ID theft protection . Trend Micro IS - 4 1/2 stars Simple, tons of features, great mobile PC features, BUT not highly configurable . ZA - 3 1/2 stars Powerful, best firewall in the business IM and ID protection BUT noisy, too many popups, very complicated . AVG - 2 1/2 stars Good AV BUT The AV is the only good thing about it . CA IS - 3 1/2 stars Fast simple to use, exc virus scanner, unobtrusive, BUT firewall is only so-so, no ID protection, components not highly integrated . Mcafees Total Protection 2007 - Tons of features, excellent backup tool, BUT too many popups, installation management can be confusing . The only reason I didn't like NIS was it kept on shutting off its proxy service, and so did ZA . And it started to get annoying when I had to restart their proxy service, about every 3-4 days - weekly, just to browse on the net .

2007-01-16 23:44:00 | Looks like NIS 2007 and Trend Micro IS 2007 are the two best options for me . . . . However I'm now leaning towards the latter because it looks a lot less resource hungry than the former . How do you acquire Trend Micro IS 2007? Online or as a shrink wrapped product from a store? Is Trend Micro IS 2007 a suite like NIS 2007?

2007-01-17 00:28:00 | I quite like my ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite that has anti-virus, a firewall, Anti-Spyware, E-mail protection, Instant messenger protection and program controls. Quite handy and definitely does not slow the computer down. | beeswax34 (63) | |

Roll on, high speed broadband - due about 2008? 2009? No thanks to Telecom.... Do you mean "one of the few OECD countries" that still sell antivirus software in a box? What about all these below $1000 GDP per capita countries such as Rwanda and Bangladesh? Plenty of people in these poor countries have trouble even affording a bike.... |

2007-01-21 02:21:00 | Get Avast. I dumped Norton several years ago with 2/3 of a year left on my subscription after getting fed up with all the problems, including getting infected with viruses. Installed Avast for free, and never had a problem since.
