515900 2007-01-15 00:04:00 LOL at you reccomending Dell for gaming and multimedia. I hope that was a poor attempt at sarcasm.

I will have to keep that tip in mind for future reference. :)

515901 2007-01-15 00:09:00 Lenovo is bad? i thought IBM computers are the cream of the crop, they cost like an arm or a leg as well. kingping (11473)
515902 2007-01-15 00:40:00 IBM sold their desktop PC business to the Chinese outfit Lenovo since they weren't making any money in the cut throat desktop/laptop market.
Your right about certain models costing an arm and a leg but that doesn't always make them the best.
Asking which PC laptop is best is like asking how long is a piece of string. there is no "right" answer, just the best answer based on what everybody you ask thinks of PC laptops that they have previously used.

From my own personal bias I would say an Apple MacBook for your price range but that is not everybodies cup of team on this forum. So as I said earlier, which ever PC laptop fits your specs and price.

515903 2007-01-15 00:47:00 Most laptops now have Core2Duo chips from Intel apart from Dell I think. Core2Duo is the next generation of chip up from the Centrino. It is better for multitasking and runs cooler. Dell is waiting for the Core2Duo equivalent from AMD later this year. Possibly any new PC laptop you buy after Jan 31st will be running Vista as OEM rather than XP. At this stage the full version of Vista is supposed to be pretty taxing on laptop battery life. winmacguy (3367)
515904 2007-01-15 01:14:00 Simply cannot go wrong with an Asus branded machine within your price-range. Greg (193)

515906 2007-01-15 02:08:00 Do yah self a favour. Get a Toshi!! Toshiba Satellite A100/00. Max out the Ram at two gig and yah got a lappie so hot, flames come outta the USB Ports!!

Seriously, this is one hellva machine. Comes with 1 gig Ram, 60g Hard Drive, 1.6 ghz Core Duo Intel inside, Windows XP Pro. The 15.1 wide TrueBrite screen is fantastic. Nvidia Ge Force 7300 with 128mb on-board memory. Wireless, Firewire and Bluetooth.

Has some cool extra features too. Like a remote control, so you can use the Toshi as a portable Media Player without booting. How 'bout the sounds, two Harmon/Kardon speakers with Toshiba's own controlling software. This creates surround sound using just two speakers. Gotta be heard to be belived!! Or how 'bout the neat little finger print scanner for file or total computer security. Dual mode mouse pad is a nice little addition too. The list goes on.

Had the Toshi about three months and it's never missed a beat. Got mine from Noel Lemmings. Dollar$, 2k5. Paid cash so got a neat TARGAS Laptop BackPac and Wireless Router free!! Comes with 1 yr warranty but you can get a longer term if you want to pay for it.

Read a review about the Toshiba Satellite A100 HERE. (www.geekzone.co.nz)

515907 2007-01-15 03:12:00 Hope all that advice helps.
Both MacBooks come with a Front Row remote which also provides a multimedia experience and are secure and virus free although the 13" screen is somewhat smaller. They can be upgraded to 2GB of RAM as well.

But anything from ASUS!!. Asus make some solid stuff, haev good battery life and excellent warranties.

I used to sell them and have reccomended them to friends and family and not one of them has been upset with an ASUS.
Oh well. It was just a shot.

515909 2007-01-15 05:51:00 gona mainly use it for work and gaming, some multimedia uses too. What sort of games are you expecting to play? Have you checked out the specifications of the current and maybe future games you wish to play on the laptop? It is best to do this now, rather than get a rude surprise if you like more high-end games and your hardware doesn't meet recommended specifications. Jen (38)
