516166 2007-01-15 03:43:00 My Norton's Internet Security subscription is about 1 week from expiring.

It seems there are a few options I can take:
1. Upgrade to the 2007 version of Norton's Internet Security. But will this renew my subscription through to the 4th week of Jan 2008?
2. Renew the subscription only through to the 4th week of Jan 2008?
3. Switch to other software which gives the same or better protection for less cost?

What do forum members recommend?

Thanks in advance.

516167 2007-01-15 04:19:00 At the risk of opening a can of worms.

I recommend uninstalling it and getting something better, it is a pig of a security suit, the performance overhead is insane.

Most forum members here will generally agree going from past threads.

It seems there are a few options I can take:

1: Continue using bloatware .
2: Get a decent AV and firwall .

516170 2007-01-15 05:56:00 Norton 2007 is a completely new version with many improvements and by all accounts does not suffer from the problems of previous versions.

OK.

# The bad: Norton Internet Security 2007 packs fewer new features and overall lacks competitive security features, such as a file shredder and a backup utility; single-user-license edition no longer available (minimum is now a three-user license); requires twice as much disk drive space as McAfee or ZoneAlarm.
# The bottom line: Despite its new price, Norton Internet Security 2007 lacks Internet security features we found in comparably priced McAfee and ZoneAlarm Internet security suites.

By rewriting much of the code, Symantec made Norton AntiVirus 2007 faster and lighter than its 2006 version, but a few glitches here and there keep us from granting it our Editors' Choice award.

Real-time antispyware allows low-risk spyware until reconfigured. Optional privacy and parental control features less flexible and powerful than previously. Antispam misses too much.

516173 2007-01-15 06:09:00 And in the latest Netguide. (for 2007).

Pros: Lots of features, excellent protection, simple interface.

Cons: Turns your speedy PC into a snail, interface is unusual.

Verdict: It's a monster and makes your PC take forever to start up, but it offers outstanding protection against a wide range of thereats.

516174 2007-01-16 02:09:00 I've been reviewing the posts in this thread and thinking about this since last night.

I have one question:
How often should the Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2007 full anti-virus scan be run? Weekly or daily? I give the full anti-virus scan 30 minutes to run each time.

NIS 2006 takes a while to load in when my laptop starts up but not really that long, I don't think so.

I'm inclining towards updating to NIS 2007, getting the automatic subscription with it to Jan 2008. I'm a bit reluctant to change to a different Internet security suite as it would need learning new stuff and it may not make a difference. I'll make my decision later this week.
