516846 2007-01-17 10:08:00 In Word, when the following is typed:
=rand(2000,99)

and depress Enter, it will generate over 200 pages of "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"

Anybody knows why?

516847 2007-01-17 10:11:00 Did you count them yourself - or is this hearsay? Laura (43)
516848 2007-01-17 10:20:00 I use =rand (n,n) followed by hitting the "enter" as a quick way to generate text that I can use when coaching others to learn Word. The first number refers to the number of paragraphs and the second number refers to the number of times the phrase is repeated. I use it to show the effect of changing font size, colour, style etc. and to demonstrate how to cut/copy/paste, etc. It is very useful. allcamp (1882)
516849 2007-01-17 10:38:00 Some programmer at MS had too much time on their hands one day just prior to the release of Windows 95. winmacguy (3367)
516850 2007-01-17 20:49:00 Isn't this a bug in Word? If by chance, you typed in the those words (characters) and hit Enter, imagine the consequences.:confused: bk T (215)
516851 2007-01-17 21:52:00 It's not a bug.

Its a well known and used feature designed to enable sample text to be generated.

It is documented

516852 2007-01-17 21:56:00 wouldn't it suck if you did it at work and hit "print" 25 times like most impatient people do? :D MAC_H8ER (5897)
516853 2007-01-17 22:03:00 yeh and it would suck even more if it was on quality stock that cost $1 a sheet. winmacguy (3367)
516854 2007-01-18 01:14:00 And it would be even worse if you did that at home and you had to pay for the paper and ink yourself. :D Graham L (2)
