516647 2007-01-17 00:27:00 Bad, bad idea if you're running Windows. While Linux can often get away with it fine (or with only limited graphics driver problems) - in Windows that's just asking for disaster. You will end up in driver hell. It's far better to reinstall if you are moving the HDD to another PC, unless the motherboards are completely identical, including the hardware revision. Erayd (23)

I agree completely. I tried it once, and all i managed to do was COMPLETELY kill all my data. So yeah... bad idea

516651 2007-01-17 01:03:00 well i got a spare decent gaming computer from my buddy to use until i finish building my own rig. meanwhile i have around 20-30 games installed on my old pc (HDD) and i want to move them to the new PC. the thing is that i am missing ALOT of installations CDs and CDKs because after i install them games/softwares i chuck my CDs into the abyss and crack/discimage all my stuff. and now its creating such a big problem for me. oh well guess i learned my lesson. kingping (11473)
516652 2007-01-17 01:14:00 just another quick question, how may i extract data from this HDD? can i plug it in as a portable HDD via USB? kingping (11473)
516653 2007-01-17 01:38:00 The easiest way would be to plug the old drive into the new computer as a slave (via IDE/SATA), in addition to its own HDD. Then it should simply appear as another drive letter and you can copy your data off it.

If you wish you can plug it in via USB, but you will need either a HDD caddy or an IDE/SATA>>USB adaptor to do this.
