518029 2007-01-21 17:43:00 My missus is having trouble connecting to her university with her video camera and AIM instant messaging. Does anyone have these so that I can have a quick practice sometime today please?

She can receive voice, video and IM typed messages, and can send typed messages, but the recipient can't see or hear her.

I'm going to have a play with it, but a practice with someone would be helpful.

Thanks.

518030 2007-01-22 00:03:00 Well, I would but I don't use AIM.

Cant they use something else besides AIM?

Does AIM show the video?

518031 2007-01-22 00:18:00 Thanks for the reply. yeah it can use other than AIM, but not sure if both people need the same. We have to use AIM cos that's what the university uses. The video is actually shown through the camera software... Logitech.

I'll go to the other machine and check it out and get back to you.

518032 2007-01-22 01:03:00 It appears that if I use AIM then my contacts have to use it as well.

Thanks anyway.

518035 2007-01-24 02:15:00 She has approval to use this via the uni?
At my uni days, they only gave me HTTP and HTTPS. POP and SMTP.
Protocols given?
Firewall issue?

When I surf the webpages, even at the news websites, I cannot stream video/audio, even if its a small auto playing clip off the home page....

The other person also has a decent speed net connection? Cos, it may be so slow that you cannot see them, or hear them.

What was that?
At the time I used IE and cannot get video clips.
I couldn't use MSN Messenger as I didn't have a SOCK setting provided to me. I couldn't even get a connection.
ICQ worked I think cos it has in place HTTP or HTTPS at the time.

I had a LAN card connection off the university with the router locked in a metal cabinet in the house.

At a different time.
It could be so slow that .. one cannot see or hear .. if the other is on dialup. I think I used Netmeeting last time. I was on dialup, not sure what the other person was using at the other end.
