517705 2007-01-20 01:55:00 I have a Dell Inspiron B130 which comes with wireless network capabilities. It would always find the signal from a network called "NETGEAR" and I would connect to it and it would work fine. I don't know where this signal was coming from because it wasn't from within my house. Recently, "NETGEAR" hasn't been showing up and I have to connect to linksys which rarely works and when it does the signal is weak. What could the reasons be for netgear disappearing? Is there something I can do to get the signal? alsoslick (10137)
517706 2007-01-20 03:17:00 When you say its not in your own house. I gather then its someone else's then?

There can be many factors. Essentially if it is not yours then you are stealing it, if that is not a public free to use hotspot.

If it has not been showing up, could be the computer is off, they on holiday, could be that they chose to hide their SSID, could be that they put security in place such as allowing certain MAC addresses to work only - sort of like the serial number of each wireless card so only their own equip can use it and other pple cannot use it - free offload.. If you had wireless and you did not want other pple using your stuff .. think of the possibilities what you can do .. that is what pple can do to you to prevent you offloading off them.

Regarding Linksys. Weak signal could be location.

I did a scan at my place, I found no signals.

517709 2007-01-20 03:47:00 How do you do that? alsoslick (10137)
517710 2007-01-20 03:49:00 Buy your own broadband internet and you can share your own internet with other computers in your own house wirelessly and if you like you can use MAC filtering as well. If you like others using your internet, you can leave your internet open. Good luck. Nomad (952)
