517715 2007-01-20 02:11:00 My system came with MS-Works pre-installed, but I needed to install MS-Office to perform required functions for my job, but here at home. The problem is this; every time I try to open any document/spreadsheet or what ever, the system DEFAULTS to open it with the MS-Work product instead of the MS-Office product. All I want to do is to NOT have the MS-Works product be the default. "Have my cake and eat it too", so to speak. I do NOT want to 'deinstall' the MS-Works software because my children use the system for school projects and MS-Word is a bit much for a 9 year old. Any and all assistance will be reviewed with great thanks... armygold2003 (11799)
517716 2007-01-20 03:08:00 You have to go into its options or if u use XP, open my computer tools/folder options / file types and look for the extension and change it, then point it to The MS-Office programs (Word, Excel etc).

Or go to wherever the doc / extension is, right mouse / open with. Click on Choose Program, then select the office program and make it the default program.

And make it the default program for whatever extension.

And no, don't know anything about Ms-Works or whats in it. Haven't got it, never used it.

You cant disable Ms-works, u can only change the extensions it loads to another program / like Office, so the other program opens it instead.

517717 2007-01-20 07:45:00 The easiest way is to Shift=Right Click on a file in Explorer and choose Open With from the menu that pops up then choose the program and also check rhe check box to always use that program. mikebartnz (21)
517718 2007-01-20 08:02:00 I like MS works it will do most things needed to run a home office or small business simply. The only proviso is that it must be version 4.5, after that it becomes to bloated and slow. tutaenui (1724)

It is the program I detest the most as it is into hold your hand so much that it gets in the way of what you realy want to do and no way should it be used in a business mainly because of file format issues.

Nonsense. Word is what your child will come across 90% of the time. There isn't a lot of difference in the layout and menu choices but Works is incompatible with everything.
Just use Word.

517722 2007-01-20 21:34:00 Hi Army* The worry about Word's complexities is a load of crap. Word can be as simple or as complex as the user requires. Teaching your child Works is teaching a redundant process. Scouse (83)
