518481 2007-01-23 04:51:00 Gidday. Hope you all had a better day than I did.....

Anyways.....I've got a copy of MS Office Pro 2003 for my lappie. Not an off-the-shelf jobbie, my employer has a business relationship with MS, and staff are entitled to cheap software....

So I throw it on my baby.....asks for and gets the Product Key, installs and all's good.

But now....when I open Word or Outlook or any of the others, it asks for my Product Key again! No worries....type it in.

Invalid! Wrong Product Key!!!

Help? Anyone??? Speedy?????????????????

I'm not sure why it's asking for the Key whenever I open an app. Or telling me it's wrong.

And yeah.....I tried multiple times on multiple app's....didn't get it wrong each time.

AB

PS: It also came with a SP2 disc...but when I put this in, it just takes me to the MS site, and asks me to d/load 149MB update! Easy on dial-up.....
Isn't the purpose of the CD to avoid the d/load?????

518482 2007-01-23 05:33:00 Hi ab. Why not ring MS? Last couple of times I've had problems with product keys they have been really helpful - although they did ask relevant questions....... Scouse (83)
518483 2007-01-23 05:44:00 MS NZ?

Hmmm....this struck me more as a PC issue as opposed to a MS issue....

518484 2007-01-23 05:48:00 Why wld it be a PC issue? You're trying to activate Office, not windows.

And its not related to hardware. Well it maybe depending on what the Office key/activation is based on.

I would say the easiest thing to do is ring MS.

Its not the same copy of Office that uses the same key as everyone else's is it?

I thought the problem might be a setting or summat on the PC. But I'll give MS a call.

Cheers

518486 2007-01-23 08:37:00 You don't happen to have another version of Office on the same PC do you?

I had what sounds like the same problem when I installed 2003 on a machine with 2000 on it.

You could activate it once, but next time you opened it, it requested a activation code and the one previously used wouldn't work.

I gave up and uninstalled it, returning the disks to the shop whence I got them and getting a refund.

The two applications were installed on different hard-drives too.

518487 2007-01-23 08:52:00 Hi BM. I installed Office 2003 Pro straight over the top of Office 2000 Premium Edition on a couple of machines without any problems. Scouse (83)

Yeah.....there's a version already installed that you activate and it dies after 6 months I think. A friend of mine at work has the exact same lappie and installed the exact same software, and had no problems.

518489 2007-01-23 21:22:00 Hi BM . I installed Office 2003 Pro straight over the top of Office 2000 Premium Edition on a couple of machines without any problems .

Yes scouse I might have got away with it if I’d done an over the top install .

However, being a disciple of the adage “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” ;) I thought I would try 2003 first to see if the new add-ons were worth the trouble .

I think there was a problem with conflicts in the anti-piracy provisions which supposedly “enhance” 2003 .

Quite why it would run once and then require a new activation code still eludes me .

518490 2007-01-23 21:35:00 Don't worry guys, get yourself a copy of Microsoft Office 2007. It looks way better than Office 2003 and has many other functionalities. msnforum (11610)
