518227 2007-01-22 05:10:00 Gee been off here way too long! travelling and work takes me off the net even if i work at a comp nearly 6-7 hrs a day

Brother has purchased a new computer, and hes not very good with the hardware side of it, wants to increase ram, and the shop is wanting to charge $75 just to look at it to determine ram type....what a rip off!
So before he takes it somewhere else is it possible to download something small to scan the computer and tell you all the hardware types brand etc you have, and to tell you this is what ram you have...so u can go back and say i want 512mb of this ram with this and this...

Hope everyone's new year has started well too :)

Correct 3200 is DDR 400 and the max is 4 GB. Up to 1 Gb in each slot.

Altho if u get 4 1 GB simms, you won't get 4 GB if you're not using 2000 / XP +. As previous versions of Windows can't or don't support that much ram.

It wouldn't matter what u get (256/512 etc) as it doesnt look like it supports dual channel, altho it should since its got 4 slots. Unless its pretty old.

518233 2007-01-22 05:59:00 it was purchased boxing day after xmas 2005....so just over a year old, hes found games that really suck up memory/power so hes expanding now, and xmas money has also been a reason lol...
am helping him find some...

am gonna recommend he get 2 x 256mb rams for now as they're pretty decent priced on trademe unless we find a gig ram as i think that would be pretty enough ram for him...

518235 2007-01-22 06:56:00 What the hell? They charge for just looking at it for a mere few seconds? Burn their building, I say! qazwsxokmijn (102)
518236 2007-01-22 15:29:00 yeh that shop......i'd avoid it they're rippin you off big time......to 'look' at the ram and ascertain what you need would take them less than 5mins......literally..... drcspy (146)
