518491 2007-01-23 21:39:00 Hi BM. Interesting. Did you think the enhancements, other than the fact that you can have 24 items on your clipboard instead of 12, were worth while. Anyway - I'm really following this thread because AB's product key allegedly worked once and is then rejected on later uses. Also interested in a version of Office Suite that is successfully installed but dies after six months - never met that and just curious to see the outcome.

Thanks MSN*. 2003 seems to have all the bells and whistles my small organisation needs for now. As always with magic new programmes, I'll let 2007 bed in for a while before looking at it seriously.

Hahahaha . . . . . . . I wrote that in a hurry! Ten points for tact Scouse!

I've got the Office Trial Version on the lappie . Can't remember how long it goes for .

Had a look at the MS NZ website . For assistance they need the Office Product ID .

The activation screen bangs up as soon as I load one of the apps, so I can't get into "Help" to get the Product ID that MS wants to help me .

Excellent

My assumption is it's related to the Trial Version already loaded, but as I mentioned earlier my boss has the exact same lappie and got the exact same bit of software, and his works a breeze . . . . . so the problem can't be that .

I also can't understand why the SP2 disc that came in the box directs to MS for a large d/load???? Shouldn't the update be on the disc??? Bizzare .

518493 2007-01-23 22:05:00 Hi ab. Can't help you with the SP2 thing. However, for the other, find Belarc Adviser on Google. Download and run it. Will give you a full profile on your computer, all software etc. About second page down you will see System Management Products and under Software Licences you will see software licence numbers and product keys for everything installed...... probably all you will need. Good luck. Scouse (83)

MS aren't that generous. Even with Office 2003 SP2 isn't on the CD. So, why would they put it on the trial version / or retail version of Office 2007?

What SP2 are u talking about btw? Office 2003 or XP's??

I don't think Office 2007 has SP1 yet has it?

That makes no sense! (Not saying you're wrong!! )

Why go to the effort/cost of creating a CD, to put in a pack, with the sole purpose of directing you to a web page?

Why not include that in the Office CD, or bung a bit of paper in the disc with the URL?

The disc says "This disc contains service pack software only. You must install this Service Pack 2 to use Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003".

Talking about the SP2 for Office Pro 03.

518497 2007-01-23 22:37:00 Hi Folks. Not wishing to take sides here but I have MS Office Professional 2003 Service Pack 2 installed on my machine as of 18/10/2005. Scouse (83)
518498 2007-01-24 00:57:00 UPDATE!

The newer installation was conflicting with the free Trial product . I installed Pro, the free-trial already there was Standard .

Delete Standard, Pro will go .

As for SP2 disc . . . . this was interesting .

Even though the disc bought up the MS webpage in my browser, there was a link at the bottom of the page that installs content of disc . Net not req'd, not was net connection . The disc bringing up a web page threw me .

So, it's all good . Thanks guys for your help .

Cheers all .

Hi Scouse,

The reason for my interest in Office 2003 was the “Data List” feature in XL which apparently provides some quite good Data Base emulation which I thought I had a use for .

However, I am always reluctant to dump a programme that has served me well and 2000 has served me well .

That is why I tried to install 2003 on a separate drive so I didn’t wind up with orphan files all over my C drive if we had a problem like the one experienced .

Anyway, I don’t think I missed out on much as I’m told 2003 wants to ring home all the time to report to Big Brother and it seems with the latest M$ products you’ll need to increase your data cap to let them all ring home . ISP’s must love M$ . :D
