518551 2007-01-23 11:57:00 Got this frustrating problem with my network. Use the Ethernet port on my computer to connect to a Telecom ADSL modem and thus onto their Broad Band network. Problem is I have to keep clicking on the local area connection icon to select repair to get the network to renew itself when I leave the comp idle between 5-10 mins. What can I do to stop this problem?

Cheers, Shomenno

518552 2007-01-23 18:32:00 Have you tried entering the settings in manually? The_End_Of_Reality (334)
518553 2007-01-23 19:50:00 Would not know what the settings would be, installed it all using the xtra CD

518554 2007-01-23 20:44:00 Ok, here is where to go:

Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections (if catagory view, if not go straight to Network Connections)>Network Connections.

Select the LAN connection that is connected to the modem and note the settings in the left hand Details window, what are these?

518555 2007-01-23 20:50:00 I presume you are using the free Router from Xtra - DSL-502T.

Go to Control Panel, select Network Connections, right click the Local Area Network (yr network card), select Properties, then, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click Properties, confirm and tick - obtain IP address automatically and tick obtain DNS automatically. click OK and exit.

Launch your browser and it should be connected now.

518556 2007-01-24 20:28:00 It is already set to obtaining the DNS automatically. One thing I did note was it had about three 1394 network connections, could this be causing problems?

The 1394 nwk should not affect your broadband connection.

You may try to use a fix IP address. Instead of using 'obtain IP address automaticall, tick use the following IP Address:

10.1.1.3 hit TAB and the subnet mask will be automatically filled in. use 10.1.1.1 as your default gateway; set 202.27.158.40 as your preferred DNS and 202.27.156.72 as your alternate DNS.

518558 2007-01-24 21:56:00 Look at the settings on the left details window and what are these? IP Address, Subnet mask, Gateway...

I have found DHCP to be a pain and is not reliable on the DSL302G, not sure about what it is that you have seeing as you have not actually said...

No, that is fine, they are Firewire cards/ports. don't worry about that
