519418 2007-01-26 20:10:00 Ive decided it time to replace my aging 19" CRT with something a little more desk friendly. Cant really justify the money for an LCD larger than 19", but have been told that because 19" LCD panels use the same resolution as 17" panels they merely stretch the pixels and look like ass.

Can any 19" LCD users confirm this? (Preferably someone who's experienced both 17" and 19" units)

519419 2007-01-26 20:15:00 ***, Yeah, same resolution, But the pixels are just larger to fil the space, No stretching going on, Just a big arse screen with a damn fine image on it.

Ive seen some damn fine arse in my time though.

519420 2007-01-26 20:55:00 Gidday,

Have used both, and have no real preference over the other.

Both screens, give a good picture, and are accurate, with no stretched pixels.
the 19' can feel a bit like looking at a large paddock, when coming off a 17",
but apart from that, great to use.

both are easy on the eyes, the only decision to make, ifs whether you, would prefer extra large or not, drop into a store with them, and see which one is best for you.

cheers,

Robby

519421 2007-01-26 20:56:00 Given that most users of 17" complain that the "writing is too small" (the resolution is too high on the smaller screen), then using that resolution on a larger screen should be a benefit.

My 19" screens are 1280 x 1024 native.

It's damn fine arse here as well, if that is what the image should be described as...

519422 2007-01-26 21:23:00 Went from 17" crt to 19" lcd. Seemed enormous at first, now I (and SWMBO) wouldn't go back! Neil McC (178)

519425 2007-01-26 22:05:00 Hmm... looks like its a 19" then! Thanks for the replies guys! Now i'm just trying to decide between a Samsung or Philips unit, any opinions on that? :p

I'm leaning towards the Samsung 940B as it gets good reviews and ive always been a fan of Samsung screens. Its only a 6bit panel but i cant really justify the added cost of a 8bit panel, and based on my needs lower response times are more important the colour quality. Although the Philips 190B7CB does have a zero dead or bright pixel warranty whereas the 940B doesn't.

On a completely separate note I've been researching parts for my new build and OMG the amount of research its taken to get too a point where I have a rough idea what I'm gonna buy. I reckon I've still got at least 10+ hours worth of research to go before i settle on anything.
