519428 2007-01-27 05:03:00 . Its only a 6bit panel but i cant really justify the added cost of a 8bit panel, and based on my needs lower response times are more important the colour q.

Question: what does 6bit and 8bit mean?

Cheers

519429 2007-01-27 06:31:00 i got a samsung 940N
the cheaper version of 940B because it doesn't have DVI
i went from a 15' old old LCD to this
so everything actually seems damn good
took a few day to get use to the size now it looks normal
and 15' seems too small~

it's pretty bright for my room
i usually turn the brightness pretty low (only at 43 with contrast at 23)
but if i change it to game mode
it blinds me if i try to read text but looks real nice with photos

i do notice some darker patches when brightness is turned low though
this is something i didn't find in the reviews online
maybe because with such low brightness some of the backlight doesn't reach all the way
this is only noticeable the left and right edge of the screen though
like..the corners gets darker than the rest of the screen so you don't get a even spread of light

other than that this screens looks nice
i have to miss out on some left and right portion of my 4:3 ratio video though
i actually didn't know these 19' with 1280x1024 was 5:4 (didn't do my math..er.)
but it's standard anyway

anywayz..duno why i wrote so much
hope you can quickly find a nice big new monitor for yourself~

..oh yea..haha..too bad a new big screen doesn't make your comp faster
other friends of mine with such big screen always have nice new fast computer to go with it..unlike me

519431 2007-01-27 17:45:00 19 " is the way to go of course, once youve had a 19" monitor you wont go back.

I have CMV, but yes have used Viewsonic and they good too, not used a main name brand one........as LCD, but had no probs with crt's.

Could you please explain this in more detail? Shouldn't the system just stretch the video to adjust to the different screen ration? Or put black bars in like with widescreen media on a 4:3 screen?

519433 2007-01-27 22:52:00 Pete, go for the unit with zero dead pixel policy... SolMiester (139)
519434 2007-01-27 23:44:00 yes i can either choose to have black bars to stretch the video to completely fill my screen
but then that will change it's ratio
so..you get people with ..um..longer faces i guess.. which i don't like
so i set it so it fills it while keeping correct ratio.. which means i end up chopping some parts out
