1411322 2015-11-13 00:17:00 Hey i have been trying to install multisystem in Ubuntu (Linux) but for some reason it can't install . What im trying to do is have a multiboot options where i can run other operating systems in linux and so that is why i need multisystem and i have been following tutorial on how to do it but can't for some reason .
The first thing i see when i run the script file is a message pops up saying i need administrator rights and when i click ok it takes me to root to get the administrator rights but still no change i can't run the script file there .

So if anyone know how to fix this issue please let me know asap .
Thanks

OS is Ubuntu 15.04 desktop 64 bit .

Thanks

1411323 2015-11-13 01:37:00 OK, I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do, but is the following web page similar to what you want to do? www.unixmen.com

If so, you would find it the easiest way to use the PPA install method I think. You need to open a terminal and copy and paste the lines given on the web page one at a time (press Enter after pasting each line). The first 'sudo' line will prompt for your password.

1411325 2015-11-13 03:51:00 I don't think the PPA repository is correctly installed in your sources.list file or perhaps you just need to refresh the sources again (sudo apt update). Sometimes they take a while to come through, especially PPA sources.

Make sure that the new PPA has been added to the /etc/apt/sources.list file (look for the "multisystem" line).

1411326 2015-11-13 04:19:00 Why are you trying to run another OS from within Linux? Why not double boot it and edit GRUB as required? mzee (3324)
1411327 2015-11-13 04:26:00 Hey Rod J , i dont know how to do those things you told me to do . If you can explain a bit better with say steps on how to do this that would help me out .

1411328 2015-11-13 10:56:00 I am on my phone so sorry for lack of explanation but typing what to do in terminal is tough.

sudo apt-add-repository 'deb liveusb.info all hand'

wget -q -O - liveusb.info | sudo apt-key add -

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install multisystem

sudo usermod -a -G adm "$ YOUR_SUDO_USER"

Any errors, let me know. We may need to remove the incorrect repo added.

Cheers,

KK

1411329 2015-11-13 11:06:00 Just to answer mzee,

Multisystem is just a way to add multiple Live OS onto a USB or bootable media so you can boot whichever OS you desire.

Its just a tool that helps you do this without the nitty gritty.

Without this tool, you can also achieve this by installing grub on your USB stick and storing the ISO of many Live CDs onto it. You then configure grub to boot from those ISOs, possibly even bypassing the bootloader that is created on those ISOs too.

Cheers,

KK

P.S. Really hope to see more Linux questions

1411330 2015-11-13 11:53:00 I see Kame beat me to it, but you can try the following fix which gets rid of the spurious 'hand' .

Yes, something is amiss it seems .

How it is trying to get 'hand/binary-amd64/Packages' beats me . . . it should be 'main/binary-amd64/Packages' . Something has got screwed up somewhere .

I found on the Ubuntu forum someone had exactly the same problem . . . must be a bug in the multisystem setup somewhere . You will need to edit the /etc/apt/sources . list file and replace the line that reads:

" . info/multisystem/depot/dists/all/hand/binary-amd64/Packages"" target="_blank">liveusb . info
with
" . info/multisystem/depot/dists/all/main/binary-amd64/Packages"" target="_blank">liveusb . info

Do the same if there is another line reading:

" . info/multisystem/depot/dists/all/hand/binary-i386/Packages"" target="_blank">liveusb . info
with
" . info/multisystem/depot/dists/all/main/binary-i386/Packages"" target="_blank">liveusb . info

You will need to edit the file as root (admin) . Easiest way for you would be with the gui editor gedit . Try this in a terminal: gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources . list

1411331 2015-11-14 00:57:00 You are correct rod j, it should be main, the problem is, that they are french and main means hand in french, so it is translated by google to it.

Good thing you picked it up.

Cheers,
