We are slowly losing our unique Kiwi identity.:annoyed: Affect – impact, affected - impacted Prison – correctional facility (What do they correct?) Swimming, meeting, camping – swim pool, meet and camp ground and other words ending in “ing.” Overseas – offshore Coast – seaboard That – this Railway line – railway track chook or hen – chicken really good – real good tins of food – cans of food 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, June – 1,2,3,4,5, June Installation – install Account or invoice – bill I suppose – I guess Well being – wellness Stamped – stomped Goods train – freight train Holidays – vacations Died – passed away Washouse – laundry Biscuits – cookies Maternity suite – birthing suite Toilet – bathroom Good decision – good call Ten dollar note – ten dollar bill There are most probably many more that I have not thought of but I think that you get the idea. |
