| 1403139 | 2015-06-18 23:13:00 | This is annoying me more than it should but seriously WTF I don't care if you're racist, athiest or mentally unstable . . . No one deserves to be killed because they are of different race/faith! Seriously I hope they give this guy a brudy good jail sentence (death penalty is too light IMO) . PEACE AND LOVE EVERYONE! /rant . |

| 1403140 | 2015-06-18 23:32:00 | I do agree. No one should be killed just because they are different - but then that's what they do in America. The gun laws in America are too lax. Even Barack Obama admitted that - when he commented on the shooting - the gun laws are to blame but he stopped short of saying that they should do something about it. It's just too easy to get a gun in America, and unless that changes - which does not seem likely - the Americans are going to continue shooting each other. Did you see the story on TV1 recently? It told the story of American children being given a gun as a present for their fourteenth birthday. Incredible. What a sick society! Thank goodness we have strict gun laws in this country and unlike America, people here do not feel the need to have a gun just for the sake of having a gun. Let's hope it stays that way. |

What a sick society! Really....yet to hear a good reason why that is so bad. It makes alot of sense as long as you dont get all lefty and blatantly anti gun about it. The parent can teach the kid safe gun handling. Can take the kid out to shouting ranges or out hunting . Can teach that its a tool not a toy . I was given a slug gun before I was 10, so were my cousins and some of my friends. My father & uncles & many of their friends all had guns, for hunting. What a sick society Look at all the farmers in NZ that have guns..and let their teenagers get used to handling guns.....what a sick society Total gun ownership in NZ is actually quite high as a % , what a sick society. Lets not get all prissy & anti US about this . Mass shootings also have happened in NZ & Aus , Europe, Middle East, all over. Its not just the US. |

| 1403142 | 2015-06-19 00:32:00 | I'm not anti guns at all. I love them, I enjoy shooting, I really enjoy hunting. Nothing beats a nabbing a good Possum. But just because I'm a good shooter doesn't mean I'm going to shoot people. What I am anti is people shooting innocent people because they look, believe or just are different to you and you have don't like it. If the whole world was just like you then it would be a very horrible place to live. NOTE: The you I'm speaking of in this case is the shooter. |

| 1403143 | 2015-06-19 00:54:00 | I'm not anti guns at all. sorry mate, I wasnt having a poke at you :-) I do wonder if there is something in our DNA that brings us to so easily dislike/hate outsiders , those a bit different , those not in our immediate family ? This hate of those different seems to be a fairly common, worldwide thing. I guess some dont choose to elevate themselves above basic animal instincts I'd have to question the mental state of these mass murders , plenty of extreme haters in the US & they dont go around killing others. |

| 1403144 | 2015-06-19 10:12:00 | I do wonder if there is something in our DNA that brings us to so easily dislike/hate outsiders. There is some truth in that musing.............. Right up to the modern day we have carried from past generations an inbred/inborn instinct to defend our partner, and/or children against real or perceived threats from people outside of our social group/neighbourhood/school etc. Problem is that society in the US has not progressed very much from the days of the wild west, and the spectre of segregation/desegregation has aroused deep feelings, especially in the South. I was in Florida when Obama was first running for President and was staying as the guest of a highly regarded senior police officer. We were out in his car one day and the topic of the Presidential Election came up, whereupon this quiet, amiable Police Officer sudddenly turned into a rabid racist and expressed vehemently, in terms you might have thought were long buried, that he 'didn't want no n-word for a President'. Take a surplus of guns, alcohol, and drugs, add a social injustice (real, perceived, or just plain hate-driven) and you have a another massacre of innocents. Billy |

Add to that the readily available supply of hand weapons and illogical gun control. Some years ago (70's) Texas had a "cooling off" period of about 48 hours I think before one was allowed to take delivery of the weapon. Drive over the Sabine River marking the border between Texas and Louisiana to the first 24/7 truckstop, and one could choose from an extensive range of weaponry - without restriction and for immediate delivery. |
