True. It's OK as a filler.....not a complete answer. As in, It's OK as, um, a filler.

1403249 2015-06-20 20:59:00 What is an "all American"? Is it someone with two legs, two arms, not circumsised, all their teeth.... etc?

Ken :)

It goes way back to college football, and the best teams, in 1932 George Olsen and his music was extolling the 'All American Girl'...www.jazz-on-line.com

1403252 2015-06-20 23:11:00 My ears gradually became aware this year of another American expression that I now seem to hear every other word during sports news. "Conference", meaning a group of teams or a league.

When hearing these commentators rabbiting on about this conference and that conference I get the mental impression of teams all huddled together in deep conversation.

Quote:
In American football specifically:
The American Football Conference (AFC) of the National Football League
The American Conference of the Arena Football League
The All-America Football Conference, a professional league which played from 1946-1949

1403255 2015-06-21 00:45:00 I noticed 38 years ago when arriving in NZ that Kiwi English had already absorbed a fair amount of American English including pronunciations without Kiwis even knowing or noticing it.

As Metla says it is an ongoing process, there is no way of stopping it, just lie back and enjoy it :clap
I refuse to lie down and think of the queen, or tolerate these Americanism's.
