1403867 2015-06-29 23:02:00 How about this, sell the state houses that are worth ridiculous amounts of money, due to where the are, and use that money to buy or build 2 more.
I do wonder, if the occupier can afford to buy that state house, perhaps they can afford to move out & into the real world ?

1403868 2015-06-30 00:02:00 An interesting discussion with compelling arguments possible for both sides.

Unfortunately, there are far too many State House Tenants who would be better moved to a pigsty and the pigs moved to the house. These “Tenants” are neither use nor ornament and cost us Taxpayers a small fortune.

My understanding is nowadays each State House costs us Taxpayers over $400 a week.

On the other hand there are some excellent tenants in State Houses and it seems wrong that they should suffer because of the useless ones.

My thoughts are for inspectors to do random inspections and if the place is a dive it goes on the market and the people who have looked after their property stay.

There is an interesting article HERE (www.sunlive.co.nz) from our ex MP who pulled the pin after one term because he couldn’t believe how disorganised Parliament was.

I disagree, strongly. In principle, I think having a welfare net is a sign of a caring society, and I think that State housing should be a part of this.

Yes indeed. A more caring society would be a welcome improvement.

They are doing that.
Example: Down the road a bit from me was an old state-looking house.
It has been removed and now there are 3 quite largish looking places on that section.

I kept checking, they weren't advertised for sale, so I am guessing the new state houses, there are people in one now.

If occupier can afford it? Yes, a point. I know when the lady we know did it, they were offered at a reasonable price and special buying circumstances.
Specifically I am not usre what, but she didn't need a deposit.

I f they had a place in the past, then they must have a place now, and that is for the needy.

People who take unfair advantage of our largesse should be put to the stake.
