1403607 2015-06-25 03:59:00 Lets make it 15,000,000 years, seeing they have just un-earthed human teeth just out of Te Aviv in Israel, . . .

Found to be false teeth being delivered by Swiss Post . ;)

1403608 2015-06-25 04:47:00 Yeah unless you swim to work with a thermometer and have been recording the results for the last few decades you have no usable data on climate change. On the other hand is there any proof at all that carbon tax is in any way effective? It leaves countries and corporations trading carbon emissions like a commodity when what they should all be doing is just working to reduce it as much as possible.

Climate Change is certain, it has always happened and will continue to do so. What is not certain is the extent of human influence on the climate and our ability to do anything about it, that's where the real arguments are.

Using a few frosty mornings as evidence against climate change is like using your back yard as evidence the earth is flat.

Yes, Climate Change has been around since the Sun decided to rise in the east, so it is of no consequence and certainly nothing new.

But given that every little drought, hot day, or high tide, is seen as proof positive by the believers that animals must stopped from farting and global warming addressed, then I don’t see it as unreasonable to consider record low temperatures to balance the argument, especially given the last Northern Hemisphere winter.

Personally, I’m going to treat the matter with the same contempt that I treated the Aids Virus wiping out civilization, the same for the Bird Flue Pandemic, the Swine Flu Pandemic, the Ebola Pandemic, the Y2K bug and the Demons of Drink. ;)

1403609 2015-06-25 06:53:00 Could somebody with a direct line to Key & Co get him to remove his "Global Warming Carbon Tax" before we all freeze to death?

Another typical B . M . post . Lacking in knowledge and understanding of the topic, as well as seemingly not understanding how science works . :groan:

Firstly, it's climate change, not global warming . Overall, average temperatures are expected to go up I believe, hence the original name global warming . However, some geographical locations are expected to have their average temperatures drop quite significantly . (parts of Europe I seem to recall) . Regardless, a single event is NOT in any way proof either for or against this .

A topic like this has to be looked at statistically, over a lengthy period of time . Yes, the earth experiences climate change naturally (Ice ages anyone), but that's not the point . Are we humans contributing to, or causing climate change? Is it likely to affect us directly in a negative way? Is it likely to affect us indirectly in a negative way? Could we potentially be risking the long term future of our species?

The vast majority of scientists agree say yes to at least some of those questions .

Could you give a logical, reasoned reply as to why you don't believe in climate change (scientific evidence is a must) .

1403610 2015-06-25 07:49:00 The problem with the left and climate change / global warming etc is that they want to tax the crap out of everyone . That's their only solution.. paulw (1826)

On the contrary Nick, I’m just not gullible enough to be sucked in by your types. :D

1403612 2015-06-25 08:50:00 So no factual evidence to support your position BM?

No surprise there, then.

1403613 2015-06-25 09:05:00 A . . .

Evidence of a forecast's results is on a sufficiently safe time scale that it is only marginally more credible than a politician's pre-election promise . Statistics used by forecasters or politicians are used the same way a drunk uses lamposts - more for support than for illumination .
Belief does mot require logic or reasoning, like religion or lotto it requires faith . And money .

Then prove it. Let's see that logical, rational, reasoned position I asked for, backup up by valid scientific evidence.

Or in less polite terms:
Put up, or **** off.

1403616 2015-06-25 12:20:00 Great! Another Global Warming thread to give the backwoodsmen a chance to strut their stuff.

A small correction to Nick G re Global Warming/Climate Change. They are two different things linked by a cause and effect relationship. Greenhouse gas absorption gives rise to global warming. Global warming drives climate change. You can have climate change without global warming, but you can't have global warming without climate change. And we definitely have global warming.

The frequency of extreme weather events has been increasing over the last decade (ask the insurance companies!). You could say that this is due to the Tooth Fairy throwing a hissy fit, or it could be due to global warming as was predicted. The Tooth Fairy explanation has the advantage that it requires no action. Who can influence the Tooth Fairy? If it is global warming then we know what needs to be done. Ignorance of this simple fact was excusable up to about the middle of the 20th century, but now there are no excuses.
