1410940 2015-11-04 03:50:00 You mean defender? Win10 doesnt have anything called protector. What error is coming up if she cant get updates? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1410941 2015-11-04 03:55:00 Sorry Defender is correct.

No error message, it sits saying it is downloading but nothing happens. Waited 30 mins but green line did not move. PJ

1410942 2015-11-04 04:02:00 Find that it will update when it's idle, mine has mind of it's own as when you go to security/updates they appear to do nothing then when you look again it's wants to restart after it's updated Lawrence (2987)
1410943 2015-11-04 04:03:00 It may take a while to download, depending on your speed. Some or most of the win 10 updates are pretty big. This mths updates were like 1.2 a GB +

And it may take longer if the system, hasnt been updated since Win10 was on it

You can go to the windows catalog site and download them, but you have to use IE to use that site

1410945 2015-11-04 06:57:00 Still no joy. Get into updates & select & it just keeps on sending dots across the screen. Any other ideas? PJ Poppa John (284)

Run the Windows update trouble shooting tool from control panel

FWIW Windows 10 updates are diffs, so it might appear that they are large but they're not if you're installing them from Windows Update

1410948 2015-11-04 18:58:00 Windows 10 can also be very deceptive.

Since the updates download automatically you may find even if you do a manual check and it says there's updates, they wont download since they already have in the back ground. Had this happen many times.

With the older versions of windows if they downloaded the start button would turn Orange, should you click on Start /Shutdown, if updates were ready to install, with W10 it doesn't, many times updates appear to have failed yet on reboot it runs through the configuring windows updates and then when you manually check again there's none.
